S2000 Start Button

I seem to remember someone did a conversion to the S2000 start button a while back. I just read up on it on the FD site.
The writer indicated when all was said and done you turn the KEY to the "On" position and then press the button.
Now, security concerns aside, does the button replace the key or is it in addition to the key? Seems an additional step to have to turn the key and then push the button. Is that how the S2000 works? I don't know what Honda's security procedures are to prevent someone only pressing a button and starting the car...

So you turn the KEY on and then hit the START button? The same amount of work is required to start up the car. The only thing is it just looks COOLER that's all.

Always keeping in mind the security problems, its not really a pure start button operation. I understand why its not. Therefore, its actually more work to key the switch and then press the button.
I guess I understand that. Doesn't sound like an attractive option to me personally, considering all the work involved. I will admit that they do look really cool though!

Augmenting the key switch with a start button, the starter won't kick over without the key being on. If you really want to be **** about it you could even wire it so that the start button wouldn't work unless the key was also in the starter position.

Where were you thinking of putting the starter button on a FC?

i wired one up b/c my ignition switch failed on me. i hid it under the dash for security reasons. it works very well! and i dunno about the security though but i think it would improve it. even if youve got my keys, hey, ya gotta find the button!

Is there any way you could run a switch to put the car in the on position, and then use the button to start it?? Thus making the key not needed

Yep, you could do it. The key switch is just a multifunction switch.

Yeah that is what I am doing on the Project 86. I am going to install one off those switch panels and one of the items on it will be a start button, and there will also be an IGN (ignition) toggle to power up that system. I kind of have to though since I have no dash or locking assembly anymore
