Don't have an aftermarket gauge, just the OE S5 unit, and in the 21 years I've had the TII, the temperature gauge only moved higher once, when a belt broke and took others with it. The car can sit in traffic, hot day A/C on, and no movement, but once again it's the factory unit.

i put water and oil temp gauges into a STOCK s5.

with a/c off water temp was 83-85C, oil was in the 65C neighborhood, basically you could see the oil cooler thermostat working

turn the a/c on, water temps would stay in the 83-85C range, and oil temps would come up to about 75-80C. with the stock radiator fan and undertray i never saw more than 88C water temp EVER, and this includes using the AC stopped in traffic on 100degree days

Of course, depends on the temp of the day, are you sitting in traffic or moving etc. etc. That being said those temps sound normal to me. You should expect the temp to run slightly higher.

Are you running the Taurus Efan, using high for A/C?

thanks jackhild59 i can always count on you for temp questions. =)
I got the fiero gt elec fan single speed. Temps are typically what i see on the freeway under load.
I need a under tray since I dont have one, Would probably help bring a higher concentration of air through the rad.

the other day I was driving through a canyon, 4th gear slight incline not paying attention with a/c blasting, glance down at my temp gauge and was about 215.. so i threw the heater on and took it easy.

Thinking about a radiator flush, new distilled water /coolant mixture, cut a hole in the front bumper to open things up a bit. perhaps vent the hood at the hinges though i dont really like the look.

i threw a stant thermostat last year, I may order a oem if that will make a tremendous difference.

Wouldnt hurt to work on some under belly ducting since its non-existent on my car. Id have to fab something up on a unemployed budget lol.

What do you guys think? the 4th gear incline on a hot socal day had to have been the culprit, but i can only imagine going thru this condition again.

Having no undertray is a big issue, get that solved and expect to see big improvements!

I have all of the stock undertray and such, but yet my A/C overheats my car....I tore it all out. It isn't that damn hot.

today wasnt bad, drove across town , hit 190 at the most with a/c on full. ordered a OEM thermostat from rx7.com so I can at least knock out that Stant one out of the equation. Planing to cut a slot in the front bumper than work on some ducting whenever i get the time, just been mad busy.

heres a question, sometimes with the a/c on, i get this annoying sound come from the passangers side, i cant determine if its from outside or in cabin, sounds like a electric motor or something grinding... comes and goes.

nah it didnt, im thinking If I add one it could help chill temps on the condenser though if i put one, i installed freeze12 last year. Id probably look into upgrading my alt if I do though.

My efan wiring comes on when a/c is on btw.

Heat shield rattling?

Possible bearing failure in the Efan? This is the primary failure mode of old efans.

I lost the bearing in my Mighty Mark VIII fan. I had the one speed version. First sign was a rough sound after turning off the engine. This lasted for 6 mos. Then the fuse burned up not out in a weird way; it melted and deformed, never really burned out the element. I replaced the fuse and one week later the fan motor went. My wife was driving the car, parked it to run in the house and grab her sunglasses. Left it with engine running and A/C blasting. Bang went the safety fuse-able plug on the receiver drier.

Lots of my 928 buddies are having bearing problems with their factory fan, which are now up to 30 years old. The newest models fans are 16 years old.
