rubber inserts necessary???

guys, as i'm in the middle of my S5 tii rebuild, i have a important issue:
i've street ported my irons and am now worried about my rubber inserts falling into the ports! Is there an issue with moderat street ports and OEM corner seals with rubber inserts? Or can i omit them?

thx

with a street port there should be no possibility of the inserts falling into the ports, the only way they could fall out is if you are running a bridgeport. if you have altered the stock ports that much on a streetport then you have much larger things to worry about than the corner seal plugs.

Unless he went too far out and ported beyond where the corner seals track.
THAT would not be good.

Well Atkins Rotary sells solid piece corner seals if that might help. Depends how far you went. I don't know about the sealing characteristcs though.
You're just going to have to see how the corner seals track.

wow... ok!
i only did about 5mm on the closing side and 1.5mm on the opening (corner seal track) side, so the corner seal is about 60% supported!

according to my porting, you think i can leave the inserts in?

The only difference between FC and FD corner seals is the spring. Atkins makes the solid seals, not mazda.

^^ yup. you might also want to go ahead and get the fd springs too. they seem like they are less prone to losing their springyness. im putting them in my engine.

anyway, good luck with your rebuild!!

No. FDs are not solid corners. They also have ruber inserts.
Atkins Rotary sells the solids.
You can use FD corner springs and oil pressure regulator.

Use them. They're there to prevent apex seal chatter (according to some SAE paper I read years ago). If you've ported to the point they will fall into the port, your ports are too big anyway.

Make sure you dont put the atkins corner seals backwards like i did then u will have to reopen your engine to flip em over

the flat side goes towards the corner spring the grooved side goes to face the iron.
