RPM switch.

For those of you who are using a summit RPM switch for aux ports or VDI or both, do you set the pulse to 2 or 4?

Thanks,

Mike

I took mine off the shelf where it's been sitting for a few years. I have the 2000 rpm DIP switch UP and the 300 hundred DIP switch Up. Why that resulted in a 3800 rpm trigger is fuzzy in my mind right now.

Unfortunatly I can't remember which coil I had the rpm signal coming from (white wire). What I do remember, is that setting it up for 3800rpm activation was not clear cut as it should have been. I think I had it going to the trail coils bullet connector. Guessing.

I found the potentiometer on the circuit board and had to use that to set the rpms at 3800rpm. The online instructions mention that pot, but if memory serves, when I did this years ago, there was no mention of the pot on the board. AND that feaking pot faced outboard towards the wall of the case where I couldn't get a screwdriver on it, so I drilled a hole in the side of the case so I could adjust the pot.

Other than that, it worked just fine for me. Maint free.

NOTE: The pot has the words ADJUST next to it.

As for your question, I think it matters which of the coils you take the rpms signal off of.

Thanks for the reply. I'm using the summit digital RPM switch--no dips. I have it set-up, as far as RPM are concerned, but there's is a pulse setting. This is where I'm a little confused. Here's what the directions say:

"For a 4 stroke engine with a distributor, set the pulse for half the number of cylinders. For a single cylinder 4 stroke that fires every other rotation, set the pulse to zero."

I have the pulse set at 2, even though the way the rotary fires doesn't fit either description. I welcome any instruction here.

Oh. Well, how about "If you still don't know how to set Pulse, or it's still wrong, set the RPM to 2000 and then try each pulse setting until the light comes on at 2000 rpm".

That's from the online instructions. By the way, where are you picking off the rpm signal?????????

Anybody that knows how to do this, jump in. The waters fine.

Just FYI. If I use the Fluke 88 and put it on RPM for a four cylinder car, and use the tach signal from the coil assy, the rpms on the Fluke will be double the *real* rpms.

Like I idle around 750rpm but the meter says says 1500rpm. So it seems you need to halve the settings on the Summit switch. Seems that way.

Yeah, I think that's what I'm going to have to do. I'm using 4 out of the six wires that are on the switch. I have red going to trailing coil + and also to the positive side of the lumbar pump with a 10A in-line fuse. I have black to ground on the strut tower, yellow to negative side of trailing coil (for rpm signal), and purple to negative side of the lumbar pump to trigger the switch/pump above the set RPM. The blue and white wires I'm not using.

I'd make the rpm signal come from the black bullet connector at the trail coil assy. It's a yellow/blue wire on the bullet connector. That's where my Summit rpm switch was getting its rpm signal. The yellow/blue wire is the same wire that feeds the tach in the car.

I would love to ba able to do that, but I don't have the 2gen trailing coil. I have a 1st gen (SE), and I just finished the S5 intake swap. The RPM switch for the VDI is that last thing I have to do, then I'm finished. I did do the 2gen leading coil upgrade (2GDFIS), but I still use the stock trailing coil. Thanks for all yor help.

Does your second generation LEAD coil assy still have that black bullet connector that is a *test* connector for rpm? Maybe use that.

I think I'm getting in the way on this thread. For the guy out there that KNOWS the answer to this problem, wade on in, thank you.

Yeah, it still has the bullet connector, but I have that wired somewhere----can't remember without looking. I think I will be ok with getting the RPM signal from the stock trailing coil, since it is directly connected with the tachometer.

BTW----You certainly are not getting in the way. You have been helpful. I'll test everything today and let you know if it checks out.

ZOMBIE THREAD....!

Did anyone ever figure out the Pulse setting?

Right now the best I can come up with is pulse 5, set for 2000 rpms... switched my pump on "around" 4000 rpms....

Thanks for any help!
