I haven't heard much either way (to make me change my mind) about synthetics. I use Redline and have had good luck with it so far.

i wonder if he realizes we are talking bout trani oil.. hmmmm

well.... maybe my problem is that the oil leaked out. since some one up above said the oil is thinner and tends to creep past places normal oil wouldnt leak from

i have 1/2 a thing left of rp. i'll try to check my trani oil. but it is a bitch to try to work under there and get the plug out and fill it properly. hah. i filled 2.5 (.5 more then the manuel advised for n/a trani)
but if my oil level is good........ then its just my bearings are going bad.

I have Redline MT-90 in all my RX-7's trannys and diffs, no problems here. They shift easier and run quieter and cooler with it

So you are single-handedly calling all the synthetic oil manufacturers and users wrong based on your probably limited 15 years of experience?

No offense to you or your experience, but that seems a little presumptuous to me.

I personally don't think what the manufacturer suggests is always right.

Wouldn't, in most cases, the manufacturers wan't their products to last?

the manufacturer wants their products to last past their warrenty, sure.

for example... what weight of oil does mazda call for in the engine? how many people actually use that weight?

Then again they don't want their products to get a horrible reputation.

now now.. stop the fighting boys. what i use in my fc is a combo of the recommended weight plus a thing of 85w140. 2 parts light weight one part heavy. really really helps old gears and syncros. shifting can be a little slow when its cold though. but hey you're in the south west.

Well, your in SA, so it gets pretty damn hot. I bet it says to use thicker in higher temps.

I used Amsoil pure synth in my 7 (235,000 on original tranny).. I've got a bit of tranny whine, but it still shifts smoothly. I'm attributing the whine to the mileage, though, I do want to rebuild it It made a world of difference switching to synth, I don't know how long the fluid was in there before I changed it (when I got the car @ 210,000), but I changed it then with half synth (cause I was poor). I think I put redline in my miata, and that made a world of difference as well.

87rx7girl - I'll bet that you've got a leaking rear oil seal. It's the seal that goes around the driveshaft spline. It probably wasn't too bad, then you put in synth, which is slipperyer (sp?). I'd change that out while you're under there, replacing oil. when you pull your driveshaft (4 bolts at the differential), any remaining oil will leak out, so then is a good time to do it! I had that happen to me when I replaced my fluid with half synth. Also, if you don't own one: buy a gear oil pump, it screws onto the top of the gear oil bottle, and has a long hose so you can pump the oil in. they're going to be like 7 bucks wherever you can find amsoil or redline synth gear oil, and they make your life a helluva lot easier! I'll never do tranny/diff fluid changes without one again!

Maybe I should have been on your *** though, as it seems you were trying to talk down to me.

Psh I was just simply stating I was 18...

I 'leaked' a little RP into the shifter area and the shifter feels so much more smoother, no longer is notchy at all and this is just with a little of it...can't wait to flush the whole damn car out and put this in!

ya i run RP in my entire car. engine oil, trans fluid, diff, but NTP+ in the rad. and it helped my shifts out and everything is smoother. the engin oil made the oil press gauge read better and the trans and diff feel smoother. i noticed that you have to "break in" royal purple at least in my car it took about a week for it to really feel good again. helped my MPG allot like +4 so ya i think its worth it.
