Atkins Rotary

I just bought a couple of parts off of them.. such as housings and new seals. Has anyone bought parts from them? Good or bad? What was your experience? From what I've heard, they had or have a good reputation. I am curious because I haven't seen anyone talk about them recently. Thanks for your input.

Ok, I searched up reviews on them and all of them were in the past (10-12 years ago). The latest thread I seen about them was 3 years ago. Any more input would be great!

Why ask after the purchase rather than before? Not sure what you're specifically asking about the quality of parts or?

They've been around for years, one of the most well known.

I would agree, since you bought from them can you share your experience?

I just placed an order yesterday. I was recommended to use Atkins from my builder.. He really preferred to use Atkins. I am asking about the quality of the parts and I have yet to receive the parts.

I always buy their gasket kits (different brand apex seals/springs); fast shipping and zero complaints. They've supported local rotary events for few years now too. Great company

depends on what you bought.

Atkins seals come from where ever Atkins has them made, to you.

the Mazda apex seals come from Nippon Piston Ring, to Mazda Japan, to Mazda USA to possibly some dealership to Atkins to you.

housings are similar, except that Mazda Japan casts them in house.

quality on the Mazda parts will be the same globally....

I am mainly asking about the seals and their reputation if that helps clarify anything. I ordered 3 MM seals for a single turbo engine but I decided I am going to return them and go with RA super seals.

Super seals on new housings? Quick way to throw out $1700.00.

Atkins is great. No telling how much I've spent with them over the years.

Rotary Aviation is great as well, I just wouldn't put super seals on a new set of $1700 housings.

Djseven, would you mind elaborating? I've only seen good reviews on the RA seals... Especially if its for a boosted engine.

on the RA seals
they don't break which is great esp if your not experienced at tuning or pushing the envelope

, but they do wear housings down significantly faster then oem....
so your trashing expensive housings fast...

but theres allways a trade off somewhere

Which seals are the most recommended then? Every time I've searched people are always stating every seal is bad. I mean at this point, someone has stated something negative about every brand of seals. I am running this on a single turbo 20b engine and it will be new housings. Nothing excessive, around 15-20 pounds of boost max.

Goopy/ALS/RA -- bend, don't break, also from what i've read, wear down the housing faster than OEM

OEM -- break when they go, potential damage to turbos, housings, but only when they go. Less wear on housings while in use.

i think that is pretty much the gist of it. considering this, when it's rebuild time I personally am going to go with Mazda and just teardown/rebuild again before they shatter. but my power goals are ~12-14 psi, with h2o inj, so I know I will be safe for a while.. it all depends on what you're going for.

If i was boosting in the 20+ range and tracking all the time and had money to blow on engines, Goopy/RA would make much more sense...

Edit: just read your build description, i don't know much about 20bs....you may want to ask in the 20b forum what they recommend.

They do break, I personally broke them right at the pointed side of the seal. But I do admit they are tougher than most others.

My experience....Atkins' engine stand adapter works great. And the free thermowax pellet delete plug that I got with it was a bonus. Pen is still writing 8 years later.

OP...these are all questions you should have asked BEFORE starting the build, before ordering the parts and probably before buying the car.

Returning seals wouldn't take any effort or hassle on my part. I am keeping the housings no matter what. This thread was mainly about Atkins as a company because I haven't seen any threads about them recently and I was curious. If I haven't even opened any packages yet I still have an OPTION to use them, so thanks for your concern but there is something called returns

*ONE YEAR BUMP*

I've been buying a lot of parts lately for my FD and Atkins has been my go-to.

Just want to chime in to say how quickly they ship parts, how easy they are to deal with and how stoked I am on their prices and service. Cheapest prices around for OEM parts, I always get a quick reply if I have any questions, and everytime I order I get some kind of little freebie in the box, too. I'll definitely be back to spend more money.

We need more Atkins Rotary shops in the RX-7 world.

Yep, good store and the little freebies are fun and cool.

By the way, I got the last antenna mount sleeve (FD01-66-A9Z) that they had on my last order. They made a neat little note about it.

Cool place.
