Does it do it more often when it's cold/warm? Does it do it only after sitting for a while? The more details the better!

Doesn't make a difference it does it whether it's cold/warm, it does it any time.

Might be that your TPS is going haywire, check out http://www.fc3s-pro.com under tech sections should be a listing for TPS (throttle position sensor) Check it and see if it's set

TPSs rarely die...Though yours could have a "dead spot" worn into it. Remove it and check it with a good analog ohmmeter...Slowly work it through it's range and look for sudden jumps in the needle of the ohmmeter.

But it could also be an intermittant vacuum leak (I had one of those).

I've had 3 bad sensors so far, and it's a good place to start, could be quite simple.

You've had 3 bad TPSs??? Of ALL the RX-7s I've worked on, I've only ever seen 1 bad TPS...Must be bad luck or something...

I guess 2 of them had dead spots all over and there was NO 1Kohm range at all, it was from .3->5->1.7 and at WOT it'd jump to infinity, the other one just had dead-spots where it'd jump to infinity, but it still could hit 1 and 5.3 without going off to never-never land.

My TPS was unlucky. I had to replace mine. I checked the Ohm Meter and did the Fuel-Cut Method In the manual and I didn't even get a rev from the motor!

But to answer your question I would also look Into the Variable Resistor, only used during Idle, as this Is often a commonly over looked part when attempting to trouble shoot a bad Idle.

Are you talking about the Fuel Pump Resistor Relay? If not, exactly where is the Variable Resistor located?

I have an S5.

Thanks
