woo hoo. finaly got my permacool 16" fan 2 days ago. made some mounts for that and my black magic adj thermostat.
then today made some custom rad mounts for my K2RD rad. the bottom of the rad will stay in stock place. the the top is being tilted back 4.5"s or so towards the engine. more then enough room to fit my 3" intake pipe, and IC piping around the side

Whats the secret? I highly doubt it will reduce intake temps, if thats what hes aiming for.

Because the air will just be heated back up, im going to say close to its normal intake temp, as soon as it sweeps through the turbo. Then cooled again as it passes through the intercooler (which is what kind/model/size?). Theres going to be a point where the air temp will only be so cool, depending on the outside tempature, which would render this useless for that portion of time. It just seems to me like there would be a noticeable benifit, if any.

I really dont get what you guys are saying (and especially you Tony). This is an ideal way to lower the intake temps quite a bit
If the filter is placed in front of the radiator, it will ALWAYS get colder air, moving or stopped (when moving, obviously, and when stopped the fan will draw enough air in to provide colder air).
The increase in temperature when the intake charge is going around the turbo and IC is always relevant to the starting temperature of the intake charge, and not absolute. i.e the air will be heated "x %" and not "to x degrees" or "to the temperature of the turbo". So by lowering the intake temps, you effectively lower the temps of the intake charge which enters the engine housings
Cannt think of anything better that this setup actually....

it is very affective.. i have some cool stories with mine... when i was sitting in a parking lot after warming my car up driving it there waiting for a bud to get some drinks.. my car started to cool down again and go slowly into the warm up cycle again
I'd rather have the "traditional" cone intake since I wouldn't want to impede any more airflow than necesary into the readiator, as it is, you have an oil cooler AND a FMIC, maybe even an AC evaporator. add in the air filter and that's just too much for my tastes
Hope all works out alright, post your temps when you do a track day in 90+ degrees

Haven't you ever driven on a cool night? For us guys that overrun our tiny wastegates, we get a nice +1 or +2 psi, depending on how cool it gets up here.
Scott, are you planning on getting or making a shroud for that?

todays update. air ducting
(will need to be trimmed after I put the rad in

the IC will be infront of it though.

Regarding Cone filter in front of Radiator
Good idea in that is should always get cooler air than a non-boxed off cone filter in the engine compartment.
But, only one problem with this idea. First time you drive in a average to heavy rain and especially if you hit a decent size water puddle....... wet filters don't pass air all that well.
