Rough Idle

ok...so i'm looking at this RX-7...2g...'87 n/a...and it idles hard...kinda like a wavy sound to it...there is dual exhaust coming out the back and one of those mufflers has rusted out and the tip fell off. Could this be part of the problem...or the complete problem??? If anyone knows what could be wrong with it...please help!!!

I need to let the guy know by the end of this week whether I want it or not...here's other info and let me know if this is a deal or not...

1987 RX-7 n/a
141,000 miles
Good Body
Brake problem (not sure)
the Rough Idle (also not sure)
Runs strong otherwise
5 speed
$800

worth it? or not?

i'm thinking it's the base model...it's like manual everything (locks, windows, etc.) so that'll make it...well I can't find it...i'm sure you know...lol

A rebuild was going to be done most likely over the next year...how much do rebuild kits cost usually?

Could be a vac leak or tps, but for 800$ its well worth it. And since its a N/A.. if the prevous owner kept up with maintance.. you can hit 200K on engine easly.

Vac leak.. you can fix yourself.. TPS.. you can readjust your self, if tps is bad.. you can go to local junk yard or get one off ebay for about $15.

Yes thats true. But one thing in the world of cars: you can't hope. Allways be ready for the worst. I have a n/a with 112K miles, I personally know the original owners, and they had it properly serviced and maintained. The motor wasn't pampered or abused, Yet I have a blown moter at 112K miles.

Oh and base model, not worth it to me. But thats just me. I'd offer $500 cash
