Roll cage for vert?
Hey, i just want to know if anyone has ever put a roll cage in their 7 vert. i know there is a website that has the roll bar for sale for like 475 but im talking about a full cage, which reinforces the frame and adds stability. i want to know if anyone has done this or seen it done? pics please if you have any. if its too costly or not really worth putting a cage in a vert post up your reason why i wanna hear all kinds of feedback on this. thanks

Look on the Mazdatrix site, they've got a bunch of pics of the rollcage in their EP class road racing vert. There's also the roll cage thread in the racing forum, but I don't know if there's any verts in there.

something tells me the convertible top doesn't work on mazdatrix car anymore
I was wondering the same thing, but if anyone has a full cage that doesnt interfere with the top much if at all.

To me rollcage means racecar, and racecar means no top. A full cage isn't a good idea on the street.
You'd have to run a petty bar to substitute for the rear supports that you can't run with the top.

We have a vert with a full cage, and yes its a full race car. Actually runs in the same class as the mazdatrix car, different coast.
The vert chassis is actually pretty stiff for not having a roof. There is about 200lbs of extra metal bracing in the car. Unless you are going to run it as a full on race car, skip the cage. Its a blvd cruiser not a hotrod.

well thanks for the feedback. what i really wanted to see was if it was worth putting the effort into putting a cage, one thing i would really like on it would be like a roll bar like the miata. i know anything like that may affect the operation of the roof and placement of the targa when you put the top down. i would love to put a nice cage in my vert but i see that doing so will make less driver friendly for a daily driver, which is what my vert is. my DD. Too bad my top leaks and i get rained on every time it rains lol. and it's been raining almost daily down here in Florida...

leaking tops are part of owning a vert that gets used on rainy days it seems. i had a wet butt on the work today from the rain :-/
i see what you guys are saying about only caging a race car. on the street if you get in a wreck and rack your head against the cage (even a padded one) a wreck you might have survived might turn fatal.
agreed for the stiffness of the chassis for not having a roof. i'm impressed still.

You can get a rollbar like an 06+ Miata, it bolts to the floor and the seatbelt towers. Not ideal as there's no bracing at the top, but it's better than nothing. That's about the only real option for a DD type car. Autopower makes such a bar, available from I/O Port.
