oil pressure gone crazy
i dont know whats up. i have searched threads for days because i dont want to start a new one but i need a good answer. my oil pressure goes from just above zero to fifty constantly. it wont drop all the way down or go over that. my check engine light never pops up. anyway ill be going down the freeway at a constant speed and the pressure is fine, but then all off a sudden it drops. ill give it some gas and it will raise back up but then it drops when i let off the gas. i dont know what kind of oil is in it because i just bought it a week ago. i have heard that you want to use some heavier oil and the electrical is **** on these cars but this is driving me nuts. the car is completly stock n/a s5. any help would be great. and no *** holes need reply i know there are othere threads about this but i still have not found an answer to my question.

The electrical system isn't "****"..."quirky" maybe, but completely consistent with Japanese industry practice of it's era.
Most likely you have a bad sending unit.
It's 20 years old, so that's neither a surprise nor an indication of bad quality...just everyday life with an old car.

the connector on the sending unit is Dirty.
I am sure t is a "slip on" type,so it is prone to getting hit with crud and then you get a bad contact/bad reading/fluctuation in reading.
Check the Wire that goes to the sending unit,(the sending unit looks like a Bell and is just under the oil filter pedestal.).clean the contact with some emery paper or Scratch it up with a knife to get it Cleaned up.Just don't Cut it off!.haha!.
Do the same for the Contact area of the Connector on the wire.
If that doesn't work as a solution then as Clokker says you may have a Bad sender. They can be Found easily Used on the Sec Gen parts Section for Peanuts.
Good luck..Post with your results.
