replacing water pump tips??

I am going to be spending my tax money on a performance radiator new water pump and new hoses for entire cooling and heating system also some fuel injection hoses too. mostly wondering about replacing water pump. when removed can i put any gasket maker or something to full proof any leaking that might occur? my car doesnt leak atm but i just want to full proof that from happening as best as possible until i do the rebuild. I did some searching and found something to do with modifying the water jackets? can i do this with the water pump off or is that a rebuild thing? thanks ahead of time

Just make sure your surfaces are thoroughly clean and flat, anm, usually, a quality gasket is all you need. I, however, like to include a very thin layer of hi-temp silicone sealer on the gasket before installing; it not only fills in minor imperfections on the surfaces that might later leak, but also helps keep the gasket in position until you get the pump snugged down.

The water jacket mod you refer to is a "rebuild thing" done to the interior of the water jacket in the rotor housings (and irons?) after disassembly. I can;t speak to the effectiveness of this procedure, though.

Best wishes.

Why do you need a new water pump unless it's faulty..?? Stockers do their job well. Autopart stores sell gasket paper... I used the thicker type paper on both waterpump gaskets to avoid any gasket maker for whatever silly reason you might have to get in there again in the immediate future, no leaks here. Also the two or three (I forget) bolts that do not go all the way through the water pump housing w studs are very easy to strip if you overtighten being they are in the housing itself which is aluminum. And don't forget to put back the two small washers upper left otherwise it'll leak.

Go to checker or autozone and ask them for The Right Stuff. I use the right stuff for everything and no leaks.

That stuff is good... except the last time I finished using it, I put it down for a few weeks (capped off pretty good) and went to use it again the whole tube was dried up. I don't remeber it being only a few bucks either. I'd suppose it's better suited for a shop or big job atmosphere. Plus a paper gasket is good if anything happens where you have to get right back in for whatever stupid reason w/out having to clean and reapply.

ok i will get the right stuff and make sure i get the correct gasket i have heard about some iffy ones out there or is it user error? haha as for replacing the water pump its just another one of those full proof things so i feel comfortable and safe. engine is getting rebuilt towards the end of this year if it makes it that long. this car has been to hell and back a few times and it looks like its going for another trip here soon haha. previous owners drifted the **** out of it. Not sure if it knocking but looking at it while idling it looks like it is a bit shaky. do our engines typically have a slight shake to it? motor mounts? idk anyways how do i put those emoticons in here? i dont see the function for it lol

Man the shaking is a mystery to me to... I built a full periferal motor for a buddy of mine (rx4!) And it was shaking like hell, tuned out the carb and still shaking, replaced the motor mounts and tranny one for the hell of it and that engine still shakes the entire shell...idk about your motor, if its stock ports and vibrates alot check the motors theyre almost always the reason for heavy engine vibrations

my idle is off i am for sure that maybe my problem idk i can get the idle set sometimes yet i still have overheating issues at low speeds and idle only sometimes that throws off my idle. and i may have an exhaust leak hence the exhaust smoke coming out of the engine bay when i have the hood up on cold start. its like a dragon breathing fire er somethin. doing the electric fan install soon and new radiator and all hoses including fuel lines and injection hoses. blah my gf just got home she hates when im on this site haha!

I believe he meant motor mounts.

My engine shakes quite a bit... And I know it is the engine/motor mounts.

While we are on the subject, I swapped the waterpump on my s5 and ever since my car vibrates when it's running. Someone suggested it may be the clutch fan so i took it off and it still shakes. Anybody know what it could be?

My idle ranges anywhere from 800-1,050 RPMs. My engine mounts have been bad for quite some time.
