replacing injectors on s4 turbo

I'm thinking of either doing it myself or taking it to a shop and paying $155 to replace both primary and secondary injectors.
I was wondering if someone here can help me save that and give me a few tips on replacing them.
Are they hard to replace? Anything I should worry about when doing them?
Any specific tools, gaskets or adhesives? I wanna plan in advance so hopefully everything can go smooth since this is my DD. Thanx for any input

They should be relatively easy to replace. Remove the intercooler and should be right under the UIM. Get some silicone spray(ghetto way is to use Spit) and spray the O-Rings so it goes in nice and easy. A basic tool ket should suffice.

um..the primaries are alot harder to replace due to the fact you need to take the whole trottle body off to get to them. Means unplugging wires and hoses. I would like to replace mine but Im afraid Iwill get the hoses and stuff connected wrong. I hate dealing with the vaccum hoses, never know with them.

swift is right. it's very easy to replace injectors, it's just that the injectors themselves are expensive.

1: take off two large intercooler pipes by loosening the pipe clamps. remove the two small pipes off the rear passenger corner of the TMIC. Remove the top mount intercooler (4 bolts).

2: remove the Upper Intake Manifold (UIM) and Dynamic Chamber in one piece. (5 bolts) you will need to pull off vacuum hoses off the front and rear or this assembly, along with a coolant hose underneith which will be the toughest thing on this project. just work slow and don't force it.

3: once the UIM and DC are off you have direct access to your primary and secondary fuel rails. the primary is the shorter one that is set further down, and the secondary is the long one that will be the first one you notice.

4: MAKE SURE YOUR FUEL SYSTEM IS NOT UNDER PRESSURE!!! you don't want gas squirting everywhere. then it's just a simple 2 bolts per rail removal and BE GENTLE with you injectors. there are cages under the injectors that assist in the atomization of fuel, but these are old and fragile they may already have some of the legs broken but you don't want these falling into your engine do you? of course not. i wouldn't either.

hope that helps a little,
TR

Hey guys thanx for the help. Ima try to get the weekend off so I can take my time with it.
Good point bout replace vac and fuel lines, ill try to buy some this week.
What's the banjo bolt mod? Sorry I heard of it but haven't really read into it yet.
The LIM doesn't have to come off right? I know the UIM gasket was done within the last couple of months so hopefully I don't have to remove that one.
Is the rats nest on the driver side gonna interfere with anything?

The stupid banjo bolt mod is suppose to replace your pulsation damper which leaks most of the time from age and causes fire.

Pleny of threads about it and debates.

Some say use another rail from a newer model. Im not sure about this, but I've read it somewhere...

Dude, Of course everyone here will say DIY.
You got your tools and you work in a shop! Lol. *****.

Masking tape. One peice on nipple, #1, one peice on vac. hose that goes there, #1

Repeat

Or..from old age, all the hoses are pretty much bent to stay in the exact postion they came from. Wee..

Fellas we forgot something very important here, don't forget to cover the openings to the LIM once you remove the UIM to prevent anything from falling into the motor

You might want to inspect the UIM/LIM gasket and judge if it needs replacing since you have them off, and it's very inexpensive. Be sure to change out any and all o-rings and grommets on the injectors with new ones.

if you have no emissions in your area then go for it, if you do have emissions you will just be creating more work for yourself.

Consider getting new clips (electrical connectors) for all of the injectors. I think Karack had a post about this recently.

also for injectors: make sure the injectors have o rings and the upper or lower grommets. after installing them, test for any leaks, sometime installing injectors wrongs will result in leaks.

I would advise on having the replacement injector electrical clips. I just completed my swap to 720's and had to replace them since they were old and cracked (you hear this complaint often). I did not read to see if you are upgrading or just replacing. But if upgrading then you may need resistors.
My only real mistake was that I replaced the tricky coolant line (under the throttle body) with a straight longer coolant line and it kinked. I started the car and I had coolant sparying after about 5 minutes of running. The second time i took it apart it was much easier....doohhh!!

--replace all the o-rings and grommets on your injectors

i didnt the first two times and had fuel leaks from the injectors and my aftermarket fpr fitting which also had an o-ring in it.

--smear the o-rings and grommets with a thin coating of oil before installing them, this will save tearing them. I think the fsm mentions this.

I used this plus a FSM as a starting point.
http://fonglingling.tripod.com/zenkifc3s/id9.html

I had a bitch of a time getting the 90 degree bend hose on. But after i sanded the barb on the TB it went on ALOT easier. Astroglide helped too

get new o rings and the fat rubber gromets from dealer/maxdatrix. and you shouldn't have any leaks.

you can test for the leaks by jumpering the fuel check connector while the UIM is still off.

Except that - wait - if the RX7 will PASS emissions, without the emissions controls in place, then why have the emissions controls? And without the emissions controls, if it passes emissions, then wouldn't that mean that a handful of people removing their emissions isn't going to cause your kids to glow in the dark?
