Replacement Windshield
I recently took a massive rock to my windsheild so i will be replacing it soon. I noticed that my current windshield is the orginal and has the antenna in it. Does anyone know how much it will effect me receiveing radio stations. It has the antenna in the back as well. Do i have to buy the new one with an antenna?

I believe you CAN buy one without.......but the price is exactly the same
However, on any FC I have worked one thus far, the connection at the bottom of the glass was not still hooked up, the wires from the glass broke before the connector...
so if yours is the same way - and it more than likely is - you will have the same station quality you have now

$170 is not bad at all.
I think the external antennae in the back is all you need.
I seen a few that even relocate the antennea to be INSIDE the car and have that hole filled and painted smooth. Looks much better and the reception (ofcourse) is dependant on how strong the reciever is and the actual Antenae used.
I am sure 99% of the aftermarket radios installed have no connection to that windshield antennea

Double check the fitment of the glass, when I replaced mine, the first windshield they installed allowed you to see inside the A pillar, from outside the car. The Black fade strip around the windshield was to narrow. When I complained about the look, they replaced with a different makers glass , and as they said a better glass cost 50 extra bucks, but visually was correct.
Total cost 300.00 for proper one
250.00 for bad fitting one.
just my .02

The windsheild antenna's are used for the factory radio and the Diversity tuner in that radio. Putting in an aftermarket windsheild that does not have the diversity antenna will result in a lower quality radio reception when using the factory radio or and aftermarket high end radio that uses diversity.

Had my windshield replaced by my buddy who owns a glass company (no labor charge ) $170 is a very good price installed and yes, I only use the glass antenna right now and reception is mediocre.
Want an expensive windshield? Try getting a factory blue tinted one. lol can you say $$$

Don't any of you guys carry windshield insurance? I pay an extra $5/mo. for comprehensive insurance with something like a $2000 deductible on theft/parked damage/etc. but no deductible on glass damage.
I'd wouldn't worry about that little antenna in the glass unless you have the stock deck. I haven't personally seen an aftermarket deck that has a diversity reception system, they all use the single lead.
I've read before that if you use a coupler to connect the two it doesn't make a difference either, so you might as well save the $15 IMO.

I've been doing glass claims for years here and I've yet to come across a straight glass claim that had no deductable...unless they had zero deductable and claimed it under comprehensive...or it was done by a stone coming off a transport going the other way and you chase down the trucker and get his Ins. involved - then it goes under the no-fault clause....
Im just curious
