REmoving Power Steering

ok so this post was SUpposed to say

I have an 89 vert that is my project car. While the motor is out, Im pulling things i dont want/ dont need. I already pulled the AC lines and compressor(dont need) and i dont want power steering.

I searched the forums but i couldn't bring up anything.

Does anyone know how to do this without buying a manual rack? Is it possible without a manual rack? And if it is, what do i need to do.

You can simply remove the power steering hardware and it'll work, but it will suck compared to the manual rack. It's even harder to steer than a manual rack.

That's why you couldn't find any answers when you searched. Instructions for removing the power steering without installing a manual rack are trivial (I hope/presume). And installing the manual rack is the only great option available.

I hope you don't plan on selling this car after you pull that stuff.

I can say that I'm 100% happy with the results, and am currently looking to get a 15.2:1 rack to convert and throw in.

doesnt it say he would NOT use the 15.2:1 rack for this conversion?

I yanked mine when I put in my rebuild. Although, it was shot when i bought it (which is why it went in the garbage). I just took everything off and plugged up the holes with the corresponding bolts. For a cleaner look you might want to cut them a bit shorter as my bolt heads stick up a good inch while sitting in thier holes.

The car will be harder to handle in parking lots and speeds below 20mph, but unless you're a girly man you'll get used to it in a month or so and won't even really miss it till you drive your dads Accord like me. And even then i'd rather have the stiffer response.

Well that was me that wrote that, and I've since changed my mind since driving it a lot more. I track my car and autocross, so having faster steering with more feel is desirable for me, and I'm willing to put up with the increased effort. For normal street driving a manual rack would be easier.

DO NOT just unbolt the lines and plug the holes, you'll get hydraulic lock and the steering will be SOLID. You MUST either drain it completely (very important to get it ALL), or loop the lines on the body of the rack, that way the fluid can move from one side to the other, or do it my way and be done with it.

If you have access to a welder, then I suggest that you weld the pinion shaft solid. There's a spring in there that takes away from the feel ever so slightly.
