To remove or not to remove tar, that is the question
Ok guys, i am about an hour away from pulling the trigger on my sound deadening tar, and i need to know whether or not i should go through with it. I painted my cage and im ready to put it in the car, but before that i need to figure this out and pain the interior, so tell me, should i remove it or leave it alone? Its a daily driver and i have a girlfriend id like to take places. The tar will counter the cage in weight, i could always add dynamat later, and i have no problem with spending a day getting it out
If you take it out expect it to be a bit louder. And Dynamat is way overpriced. There is a business in Arizona which makes better for less. If you remove it you can use dry ice or a heat gun. Many say dry ice is easier. And when replacing you don't need full coverage as it is overkill.
I removed it and have no carpet. I also have other fcs w interior so no big deal. Rebecca has been burned plenty by the trans tunnel. So maybe not if your girl is riding with you lol
I do daily it, but I have 2 other full (and nice) interior dependable fcs I can drive just incase I want to switch it up. I could see regretting it if it was my only car. But if its what you wanna do, go for it!
i took mine out on a 0 degree day, it popped right off... my buddy did his during the summer and it would not come off.. than used dry ice and it popped right off.... we both did it because of the whole rust issue under that stuff, we used a aftermarket spray on sound deadner (lizard skin) because using dynomat would do the same as the factory stuff and trap moisture under it... the lizard skin is a great alternative to dynomat, but is costly, and kinda messy.

That makes the answer to your question easy, especially if you want the gf to want to go with you to places in that car. The day you decide to make it a dedicated track car, then it's worth the effort to pull the sound insulation.

I had an 86 GXL that we completely stripped out to the panels. My girlfriend HATED driving shotgun in that thing. She always complained about her feet getting really hot. The noise wasn't too bad, but the heat is definitely noticeable.
Before any judgments are made, she absolutely loved my much nicer 87 turbo. She cried when I sold it. Keeper?
