Redlining all that healthy?
Redlining all that healthy?
I've read numerous posts about how you're supposed to redline your car every so often to blow out the carbon. What about us w/higher mileage motors? I'm about to touch 133,000 miles. Original motor too. Don't know how the owner's before the previous one treated it. I'm the 5th owner. My friend before me did NOT take the least bit care of her. Oh, well....I saved a 7

I know that you need to redline it.......just how much can a motor take? Redlining it EVERYDAY can't be good. You don't see all FD's getting redlined everyday.....The again...they have more things to break....

My GXL died at 78k because the PO never drove it hard. Food for thought...
(also it was an automatic... never drove a rotary automatic, but my guess is that it probably doesn't ever hit redline unless you floor it and keep it there)

My 88GTU has only 63K on the clock, and didnt run too good when i got it because, as previously stated, the owner was easy on it. After a few months of redlining the hell out of it... it seems to run faster every day.

Rotarys like to be redlined. I redline my car at least once every time I drive it. Now if you have a turbo then all that goes out the window. Turbo rotarys are still rotarys and do need to be redlined, but not as much(unless your rich and can afford a rebuild every 30k) and definatly not as long.
Ooops. I've had my car for nearly 2 years, and I think I've redlined it maybe 3 or 4 times TOTAL (I've been trying to make the engine last longer until I can afford to completely rebuild it). In fact, I nearly never go over 5000 rpms. So does this mean I am actually doing more harm than good??
Once in a while I'll redline it without boost...just winding it out without hitting the gas hard enough to get the turbo going.
Sometimes I'll floor it though and take it up to 5000-6000....I love boost.

That is the best line I've heard in a while.
