Redlining all that healthy?

I've read numerous posts about how you're supposed to redline your car every so often to blow out the carbon. What about us w/higher mileage motors? I'm about to touch 133,000 miles. Original motor too. Don't know how the owner's before the previous one treated it. I'm the 5th owner. My friend before me did NOT take the least bit care of her. Oh, well....I saved a 7

Liar...yes they do.....when they're flying out of the car that is

I know that you need to redline it.......just how much can a motor take? Redlining it EVERYDAY can't be good. You don't see all FD's getting redlined everyday.....The again...they have more things to break....

To and near redline is ok, IMHO taking it over 8200 is just a chance in damaging your engine.

By redline I always think of very beginning. Not the entire thing

That's not high milage for a Series 4. My co-worker has an 88 SE, bone stock, with 239K miles on the original motor. It sees redline every day. Just change your oil regularily, and don't overheat it and it'll be fine.

My GXL died at 78k because the PO never drove it hard. Food for thought...

(also it was an automatic... never drove a rotary automatic, but my guess is that it probably doesn't ever hit redline unless you floor it and keep it there)

The donor motor that was rebuilt for my car had only 33K on it. The apex seals measured within specs for 'new'. All it needed was new seals/gaskets and all the carbon cleaned out.

My 88GTU has only 63K on the clock, and didnt run too good when i got it because, as previously stated, the owner was easy on it. After a few months of redlining the hell out of it... it seems to run faster every day.

We're not talking about torturing it, just a good 2nd gear pull to the buzzer down an on-ramp.

True dat. I have over 172k miles on mine 7 and I redline her a couple times a week. The engine is still running strong considering her age. The only problem I've ever had where she didn't start was recently, when my battery died .

as long as you don't redline it in all shifts for the entire day it is fine. Have fun, but do NOT abuse..

Rotarys like to be redlined. I redline my car at least once every time I drive it. Now if you have a turbo then all that goes out the window. Turbo rotarys are still rotarys and do need to be redlined, but not as much(unless your rich and can afford a rebuild every 30k) and definatly not as long.

Ooops. I've had my car for nearly 2 years, and I think I've redlined it maybe 3 or 4 times TOTAL (I've been trying to make the engine last longer until I can afford to completely rebuild it). In fact, I nearly never go over 5000 rpms. So does this mean I am actually doing more harm than good??

The thin line between good for your car and abuse of your car, I guess?

Once in a while I'll redline it without boost...just winding it out without hitting the gas hard enough to get the turbo going.

Sometimes I'll floor it though and take it up to 5000-6000....I love boost.
