red hot?!?

have an 87 sport and I was pulling a 0-120 run in my car and when I got out and checked under the hood I noticed the header was bright red

is this normal for an N/A car
I am running a RB header and presilencer with the stock muffs though the left one is blown

is there anything I should worry about?

Ya you should worry about the blown muffler Is it clogged or what? Should prolly change those because there is some sort of major clogging to heat a header that much. Prolly the exhaust is flowing a whole lot until one point(muffler(s)?) then getting clogged up and really heating the header.

I'd expect the header to be glowing red.

So your muffler is just missing some of the back? Well if not clogged I don't know. Wouldn't expect a header to become glowing red unless something is clogged. Might want to see what people say that have that setup though.

you are probably running lean. an 87 with a full exhaust with headers probably is. that would cause the hotter exhuast. also check your timming and make sure it is on. to high = hoter.

Don't forget that rotary engines naturally have very high exhaust temperatures. That combined with a thin walled aftermarket header and it's sure to light up.

yeah I am getting tired of the muff myself
it is starting to stink a tad bit.

as for the muffs how the heck do they get clogged. I mean I could understand the cats but..... I dont have any

how can I tell for sure if I am running lean or not. I know at idle atleast it smells strong like I am running rich.
