Rebuilt Engine (oil pan question)
I just got my rebuilt 13b (non-turbo) into the car. While pulling all of the parts I needed off of the old motor, I noticed something on the oil pan.
The old motor has one hole with the wiring harness coming out of it (is this the oil level sensor?). The new oil pan has that same hole, but another smaller one like the pictured one below.
What is the smaller hole for (the one on the right)? Thanks in advance.
ps, i've been searching for about 1/2 hour, and havent found an answer yet.

Im very sure its the sub zero.
Make sure you use a new gasket with sealent, and TORQUE all bolts to spec in a criss cross pattern. Last thing you want is 10000km's later to see a dirty oil pan due to leaking oil.

The oil pan was put on by the factory, so I shouldn't have to torque it down any more.

It still does that and my neighbors don't like it when I use the remote start and can't stop the process (stepping on the gas or starting it in gear usually stops it).

Cool. Thanks for the help guys. I'll get a plug for it then.
I actually found it in my Hayne's manual a little while after posting. He calls it the Oil Thermo Unit. But regardless, it wasn't there before.
Also, on my oil level sensor, the wire got cut when I moved the engine. Can I just put that back together with a butt connector, or do I have to get a new one?
Thanks again guys. You'll be the first to know when I get her running.

They stopped using the Sub Zero in '89. When you're putting the motor back in the Sub Zero connector will be hanging out of your wiring harness and you'll be stumped as to where it goes. Most just hang there not connected and they do not hurt anything. Just be prepared

Ok guys, sorry to bring this back.
Does anyone know the size of that smaller hole, more specifically the size/thread for a plug? I asked the parts guy at Mazda that I've been dealing with, he sold me one and it's way too small. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance. ~Brian
