rebuild-how hard/expensive?
How hard is it to rebuild a rotary? I've done a ton of piston motors, but never one of these. Also, how expensive are parts, and what all do you have to replace? Anyplace have good deals on rebuild kits? Thanks, Jer
It's pretty simple compared to rebuilding a piston motor. Get a copy of the factory service manual it will help alot. As for parts thats where it gets expensive. If your engine is in good shape meaning that all your rotors, rotor housings, end and intermediate plates, eccentric shaft are still good then all you would need is the basic gasket kit and the seal kit, which would contain new apex seals, side seal, oil o-rings etc. You'll be looking about $650 to $750 total for the 2 kits. The price goes way up if you need to replace a rotor or a housing or both. Around $400 give or take $100 per part. You can try to keep cost down by buying used but thats up to you.
The rebuild itself is not too hard. There is a video out that would make it a lot easier though. Some good places for seals aviationrotary.com and also atkinsrotary.com. Look at spending ~900 for seals and gaskets. It varies depending on year and model though.
