Single Turbo RX-7's Questions about all aspects of single turbo setups.

Anyone thought about putting a screen between the motor and the turbo?

To catch apex seals and other **** that may come flying out of your motor to destroy your turbo.

I mean, it seems like a lot of the guy here have turbos that would cost as much or more to rebuild than the motor, so a little safety might be a good thing.

The main problem I see is my local Home Depot probably doesn't stock anything like a screen that won't melt.

Would the restriction created by the screen make it not worth it?
Or would it just be to hard/expensive to fine a ceramic coated titanium plasma enhanced screen that wouldn't melt?

the screen would melt unless it was made out of some real space aged ****. but then it would probably break when an apex seal gets launched at it at the speed of sound.

if you did find a magical material that could actually stand up to the extreme heat of a big single turbo rotary then it would restrict flow substantially

Big restriction, and it won't hold up to the heat. And if you did manage to get some material to hold up to the heat, it'll probly match or exceed the cost of a new turbo. It'll still be a big restriction also. How about people spend more time and money on fuel systems and TUNING so those apex seals aren't being shot out the exhaust ports?

Maybe you could just use a big *** magnet to catch them on the way out...

Get those suckers on there and run some 30psi's!!! Be Sure to get a video when teh apex seals let loose!

Bubble gum maybe? Fly paper? Duct tape?

so there hasn't been a screen made that can stand up to this type of heat already?

How about some mini lasers that are programmed to zap those pesky apex seal pieces (or whatever else) comes through the exhaust?

Put Pikmin in your exhaust to catch them

You mean, some sort of fine wire that can withstand high velocity 1600+degF heat on a constant basis with no way of conducting that heat away?

Maybe if you found some adamantium, or put lightsabers in the exhaust.

edit: Just get a Subaru... they have a "screen" that works, it's called a catalytic converter mounted before the turbo!

Contact NASA, they make high velocity high heat resistant metal.
