Rattle when shifting?
Hey all, what does it mean when I shift I can hear something rattling, like a bolt is loose or something? It's only in low RPM's and in lower gears, like when I put on the gas at about 1500 RPM in 1-3rd. It seems like something is rattling a little and I am kinda worried about it, anyone know whats up?

Edit:
Is the sound coming from the shifter or something like when you have the clutch in? Depending on when and where the noise is, it could be anything from your shifter bushings to the pilot bearing or throwout bearing.

It seems like the sound comes from under the car, in the transmission area... and It does'nt rattle the car or shifter at all, just makes a rattling noise, like shaking a bolt in a metal container real fast

Sorry, but more questions:
Does the car shift o.k.? Does the rattling get more pronounced in between gears? Does RPM's change it any?
Sounds to me like a pilot bearing.

The car shifts fine, It seems like the rattle is only in low RPM's below 2k, and it only does it when I apply the gas right after a shift, and it only rattles for about 2-3 seconds... (its not really a big deal, I was just wondering if it was or could lead up to a major problem) Thanks for help so far... I will check to see if the heatshields are loose. Any other ideas a appreciated too.

On mine there's an air tube leading from the catalytic converter up to the secondary intake that was sitting too close to the manifold heatshield, causing that rattle. sounds like the same thing...

reviving old threads, but hey, I searched, and this is relevant so here goes.
I pretty much have the same problem, I get a rattling pretty much in 2nd and 3rd gear below 3k rpm, occasionally 2.5k, it's pretty consistent sometimes other times don't notice it so much. But the location seems to change primarily somewhere near the engine bay front or other times somewhere in the back. Only happens when the car's in gear and gas is applied, won't sound if you're reving in neutral or clutched in or when you go above 3k/2k+ rpm. Anyone know the problem?

anyone? I'm guessing something's lose and causing the engine or tranny to vibrate, though that doesn't really explain why I'm sometimes getting the rattling in the back and sometimes in the front. so..
