ran out of gas

some one just sold me an rx7 with a 13b engine ($300) cuz he couldn't get it to start. it ends up he wasn't pushing the clutch in when he turned the key. i also discovered the fuel gauge was broke (discovered when i knocked on the tank). i just fueled her up and was wondering if there is a procedure for starting her up after running out of gas?

WTF? Did he steal the car? Why the hell did he own it, if he never knew enough to start it in the first place?

to the first person, he's an idiot. to the second person, i live in B.R. we are fine here, i obviously have power and internet. it's just the eastern part of the state that is fucked. so, how do i prime the engine after refueling or is this not the problem?

Sweet deal on the 7. The fuel pump only starts to run when the engine is cranking, so you have to crank the engine for a bit before fuel gets to the rails. Mazda did this for safety purposes, in case the car flips or something and the engine cuts off, it cuts fuel. you don't wanna be Bar-B-Q. If it still doesn't get fuel, check voltage at the pump and make sure it's getting enough voltage. If not you'll have to do the pump re-wire.

i am sorry but that is not intirely true, on the passanger side under the hood next to the strut tower there is a green conector, jump a peice of wire from one side to the other and turn your are into the "on" position(dont crank) you will hear your pump running and will prime your fuel rails, this is also used to check leaks i would suggest checking the PD(pulsation dampener) while your at it. this information could also have been found by search, and yes nice find.

Only '86 model year FC's do not have a clutch safety switch, they became a federal requirement for all MT vehicles in the '88 model year.

I'm still amazed someone could possibly be that stupid. And he had no semi-intelligent friends to help him out!?

he had me but i figured if he knew enough to replace the starter, alternator and battery, then he would know to push the clutch in. finally right before he moved out of state w/o making arrangements for his car he asked me the million dollar question. that's when he realized if i gave him 3 bills it would be 3 bills he wouldn't otherwise have and relieve him of a car that in 2.5 years he could not get to start.

Would you by chance have any photos of this vehicle? I would just like to see what condition a vehicle that hadn't been started by a retard was in. Did he wash it regularly, change the oil, put AAA batteries in the remote contol, before trying to turn on, etc. And by the way, if it all looks good, I will give you 700 dollars, and fly out to your place to personally pick it up. That way, YOU have doubled your investment, plus have an extra hundred for beer and meat.

PEACE THE DOG

this car has been sitting for 2.5 years? goddamn.

at the minimum, i would change the oil and put on new oil filter before trying to get her to start.
