Exclamation Radiator...

i have had my ragtop fc for a week and it has the original radiator. i was coming home from work friday and the add coolant sensor would come on and would make this annoying buzzing kinda honking noise, and as soon as i exited the freeway smoke started coming out from under my hood, i get to the gas station to see whats going on and my coolant is completed gone even from the reserve. now i downloaded the manual from iluvmyrx7.com which was directed from fc3s.org, and a buddy of mine hooked me up with his stock turbo II radiator but the mounts are too short. i was wondering if anyone out there would now a good place to buy a decent aftermarket radiator my budgets about 200 bucks. please refer me im in LA.

the T2 radiator should fit just fine, is his an aftermarket radiator?

won't find much for $200 except maybe a decent used one for less than that.

all FC radiators work just fine, in fact they are oversized for the engine so unless it is partially clogged any FC radiator will work but there is some differences in where the pressure caps mount and you will have to take that into consideration when replacing or purchasing one.

Make sure this is a problem with the radiator. I don't know if you pressure tested it or anything along those lines to make sure it's leaking or is indeed the problem but there are several other things that can do this.

There is a difference between S4 and S5 radiators, though. Is yours an S5 (89-91)?

I have a good used Koyo from my S5 TII for sale- $200.00 if you're interested.

I'm in need of a replacemnet radiator too. The original radiator in my 90 GXL with 251K miles has a small leak and loses about a cup of coolant every couple weeks. The righthand side of the radiator is where it's leaking. I would like suggestions on possible repalcement radiators. I could always go with a Mazda stock radiator, which costs around $360, or with an aftermarket radiator. If aftermarket, it would have to be a direct bolt-in replacement. RX7.com sells a brass radiator $250, Mazdatrix sells a 2-row metal radiator for $234, or I could go with a Koyo, which RP Performance sell for about $360. I'm just wondering if anyone has used any of the above, and if so any positive or negative feedback. Also, I'm open to any suggestions/recomendations or comments regarding a replacement radiator.

Thanks,

There are actually several rads used on the FC. Some have the fill plug on the thermostat neck and no fill on the rad, some have both a fill on the rad and the thermostat neck, etc. There were several different combinations of that and coolant bottle locations as well.

But basically, all FC rads are swappable.

I've got a brass (I think) one sitting in my basement I'll let go for $150. (plus shipping) I can get some pictures of it if they are desired. Pretty sure it's brass, the endtanks are metal. It came with my car, I took it out when I put in my aluminum fluidyne one. (which my mechanic thinks is too small for prolonged track use, ack. More money to spend...)

yeah the problem is definitely the radiator... in my attempt to swap out the s5 for the s4 t2 i took it out filled it up with water and covered all the holes and sure enough it leaks from the top where the plastic and the aluminum parts meet.
