KS cooling system/ radiator, resivor outlet

well i have a dumb question, i have this 87 rx-7 gxl N/A, i just bought it for something to fix up, i cant fill up the coolant all the way... the over flow tube that leads to the resivor... i cant spell... keeps just letting the coolant out of the radiator... the over flow tube comes strait out of the top of the radiator... what holds the coolant in?!? i know its supposed to be pressurized to keep cool, but it wont hold pressure, it just blows the coolant into the resivor , then the resivor fills, and lets coolant out onto the ground... is this even the correct place to have the resivor tube come out? i ask because i have no idea what this car has been through, or who worked on it, could have been a shade tree mechanic not knowing what a rotary is or how to fix it..... but i normally see this tube comming from somewhere near the radiator cap. Can anyone help?

If someone put the overflow tube anywhere other than right at the pressure cap, it wasn't because they knew nothing about rotaries, they knew nothing about cooling systems in general.
A set up like that wouldn't work on any car.

Do you have pics of this hack job?

^ what he said, are you lucky enough that the tube comes from a threaded hole so you can just pull it out and screw in the original water level sensor.

What? Why would someone even do this? Like Will said above, that's where the water level sensor is supposed to go. Is your buzzer inside the car going off, telling you to add coolant? Definitely pull that hose and replace it with the correct sensor, or at least cap it off for now.

well, it does have a wire comming from it, and yes it is threaded in, looks like it is supposed to be like this, but i dont know enough to say its wrong. but it just lets the coolant flow through, like nothing is holding it back, also the cap has no nipple near it to put a hose on, there is a dimple in it, but no hole

i do not know, this car didn't even run when i got it, i figured a new engine would fix it up... but of course i checked it out first. finally got it running, runs good, except the coolant problem and some other small problems, but this is how i got it.... i dont hear a buzzer, but the power steering beep is getting very annoying... no idiot lights or anything

Someone mixed and matched parts on you...and got it terribly wrong.
You need this to replace the one on the thermostat cover neck and either a sensor (preferable) or a plug on the radiator.
Problem solved.

I'm going to the junkyard today, I'll see if there's one to grab if you're interested.

It's amazing what people will do when they have no clue how something works. Don't get too frustrated, it will be great fun when you get it working properly.
