my bad the forum was acting super slow...
I was just wondering why they turned that greenish/ bluish color...

Do u guys think is just the heat? but i would think that for 4k miles it shouldn't be that bad

Does anyone know? and if i should maybe get them coated or something? will it eat though metal

heat wrap is designed for very extreme temps, it keeps the heat in the exhaust and out of the engine bay. i really wouldnt worry about it catching on fire. get some exhaust wrap and it should be fine. As for discoloration, im sure thats normal because my stainless steel exhaust started to discolor but seems fine. Summit racing tape this tape seems ok because it is good for up to 2000°F -alex

Take a look at the chrome on a harley's exhaust... it blues after a couple of hundred miles..

My RB SS downpipe from my turbo has less that 1000 mile on it an its blued... looks pretty cool i think!!!

one option is to put copper gasket spray on it... ugly, but at least it stays one color...

Don't heat wrap it. It's just the natural discoloration of stainless steel. IMO, I think it looks awesome.

Even SS will rust/crack if under heat wrap.

Well, lets also list the pro's of heat wrap...
- lower engine bay heat: less heat soak into intake manifolds, air filters, wiring harnesses, etc etc.
- Increased power (slight)
- Decreased spool-up time
- Decreases the ugly tinny sound associated with headers

And cons:
- doesn't look as pretty
- voids header warranties
- Causes header to oxidize at a rapid level on most metals, including stainless steel.

they're supposed to blue.

My motorcycle's pipes are exposed, and they've blued quite nicely. It's kinda neat at night time, when it's cold out, the pipe right next to the engine is a glowing red.

But yeah, it's normal, so let it happen. Take a look at any motorcycle, it'll have blued pipes.
