Quick question on the water pump

I noticed the other day that the 86 GXL i just got has had the air pump removed.

The guy who had this car before me is, in the nicest way I can say this, a bit slow.

With out the airpump there the only belt driving the water pump is the alternator belt.

So now i'm thinking that the reason my car overheats when I get on it is because that this belt does not have enough contact area on the water pump pully.

Am I right in suspecting this is the probelm? Is the best way to remedy this problem to get a belt that goes from the crank pully to the waterpump pully or should I put an airpump back in?

Thanks,
Jim

awesome, I like this idea a lot better than thinking I have a blown coolant seal in the engine.

Based on your other thred I doubt that is being caused by only a single belt unless that one belt is too loose or is about ready to break. I run my T2 on a single belt and i've seen a highly modified one run on one belt fine until it burned the belt off. So if the belt is tight and in good working order then i doubt a dubble pully will fix your problem.
