Quick Injector Question

I have was pulling the injectors from a GXL that I just bought and noticed something interesting. Im sure some of you guys on here know exactly what the deal is no problem but this was kind the first time I've encountered this. I found two purple top injectors under the manifold and two of these white top injectors. They all share the same part number but why are they different colors exactly? Some basic research brought Turbo injectors for this part number. Would I be correct? P/N: 19500-1370

The locationg TAB in the elect jack is centered in the light brown ones and is off set in the purple ones.

The purple ones have a resistance of approx 12ohms and the light brown ones have a resistance of 2-3 ohms.

The 2-3 ohm ones belong on cars built prior to 1987 1/2. The other ones belong on 1987 1/2 and newer i.e 1987 1/2 to 1988.

On a side note, why is it that those RED injectors are being called PURPLE? I've noticed this a few times now, and it's even in the FAQ.

I have a set of turbo injectors that are actually light purple, have centered tabs and are low impedance 87-87.5 injectors from a J-spec engine. They look like the ones on the far right side of this picture: http://image.nengun.com/catalogue/or...-injectors.jpg

I dont know. Maybe because when you're looking at them in person they much more resemble the color purple than red?

They were probably red upon manufacture. The pigment in the plastic will fade from heat and/or light exposure (Ultraviolet). Since there is no UV light expected under the hood, the plastics were likely not spec'd with UV inhibitors. In this case, the pigment would be highly unstable. Even the dim UV reflected from the road over a period of 20 years is enough to fade non-stablized pigments. It is pretty common for the dye red plastic to fade out to pinkish purple-ish.

Sure, I realize the plastics fade / change color with age. But even in the picture above, that's not purple. Pinkish-red maybe. I have twelve high impedence 460cc injectors that are red to red-orange colored actually. Maybe slightly different color mixes were used in the manufacturing process at different times. Just pointing out that calling them purple is confusing, since there are actually purple injectors for the FC that are completely different from those ones.

Yes, the color fade will vary with the source and color of the base resin, the source and type of pigment used. The pigment from the same source will also vary significantly from lot to lot. There is no QC standard for color fading the only the QC standard is verifying color that the part shows on when it is made-and that might have been pretty variable as well.

Reds fade. They fade variably. In this case, calling them purple may be as inaccurate as calling them them red.
