quick fuel pump question/ECU

Hey guys,
I have a 'new' fuel pump-old one didnt work at all, i can hear it when the car is ON and i jump the connector but withut jumping it, I havent heard it at all (havent been able to start the car yet --other reasons).

Is the fuel pump always on for a few seconds when the key is first turned ON?

The guy I bought it from got confused and tried testing the fuel pump by jumping the three terminals of the three terminal connector - close to the correct two wire connector. Anyway, that fried out the ECU (new one was installed) could this have affected anything else than the ECU?
all fuses are fine, spark is fine and i took the return line off and put it in a can and jumped the connector and the can fill sup with gas in seconds....so it works...

thanks a bunch!

you may want to run through the relays and fuses, also the solenoids

Putting the key to ON will not make the pump run at all.

The pump runs when the key is HELD to START. Key word...HELD.

The fuel pump runs when the engine starts and the key is released from START.

The fuel pump runs when the key is to ON and the engine has actually started.

The fuel pump runs when the fuel pump check connector is jumpered AND the key is to ON. Engine does not have to be running in this case.

There is no such thing as turning the key to ON and the pump priming the rails. I've read that before and they are all wet, to be kind.

This: ::::::Is the fuel pump always on for a few seconds when the key is first turned ON?:::::::: is incorrect.

Dude, if you don't know please don't post. There are dozens of relays, fuses and solenoids in these cars, and hardly any of them have anything to do with the fuel pump.

If he jumpered the green check connector it's pretty much a certain thing that the Relief and Switching solenoid drivers/whatever they are called, got fried by the 12vdc coming from the black/white wire on the green check connector. See the wiring diagram that shows the green check connector and you'll see why.

IF you want to see if a new/old/bought from the junkyard pump werks, just pull apart the fuel pump connector on the car and attach your new/old fuel pump. Make sure the key is to ON and the fuel pump check connector is jumpered. Pump should purr.

well, i got her running today, without jumping the connector, drove her for about a mile.. i think thats good enough proof that the pump and circuitry is good-enough.

thanks
