Oil Sending Unit
So I changed my tranny/clutch/and driveshaft a few weeks ago and then when I plugged everything back in everything seemed to work, all except for the oil press gauge. When I turned the car one...it Shot straight up and then came down. So I checked the wire running to the unit and it seemed fine. So my next guess was to replace the unit, and so I did and still the press guage does not read. Could there be a wire I left loose when I changed the tranny? OR some ground not connected? The only thing I noticed that wasnt connected when I changed the tranny was this noise condensor and I didnt know where to put it. I tried grounding it out and nothing then I tried to run current through it and nothing. IT might just be busted now (the condensor) but Im not sure if that has anything to do with my gauge not reading. ITs an 89 GTU S5. Thanks
try checking right inder the oil filter, that switch will work its way loose and or get clogged up with il and dirt since its in such a great location, and do the checks for loose grounds, i know you didnt take the dash off, but you might want to check the connections on the back of the gauges, see if it could be loose, its possible to do, if you like bending like a circus preformer. hope this helps.
also check for the capacitor(little black box with a ring terminal built into it). it actually i think from the factory come mounted on the slave cylinder. its a signal noise suppresor for the oil sending unit. . I say this cuz you pulled your tranny and clutch and you need to pull the slave to get to both
