quick exhuast q......

okay, this may be a newb question, but i am going to ask it anyways.

i have currently on my na s4 a rb header-back system. my friend has an s5 with the stock exhaust. will his s5 exhaust bolt up to my rb system, after the cat? he wants mine, and i want something quieter. i just wanted to see if anyone knew this or has done this before.

thanks!

that's good to hear. rb header back systems with n1 mufflers are really loud.

i don't have cruise, and on a rotary meet trip in orlando, i couldn't hear anything right for two days after. i think i need something a little quieter.

The RB catback is suppose to the as quiet as stock with a lower tone. It's also less restritive.

(Don't quote me on that, i haven't actually heard on in person)

the rb catback system is relatively quiet, not exactly stock, but good sounding. mine has n1 mufflers on it, so it is quite loud. at 3k rpm, i set off car alarms. fun, but i can't sneak up on anyone. my roommates hear me from a few blocks away, and five minutes later, i walk in the door. it's actually funny, but i am getting tired of it.

if the stock s5 catback bolts up to the rb header and hi-flow cat, then i will be selling the catback to a friend. if it doesn't it will be a different set of mufflers in the future.

this way, i'll get some backpressure back, hopefully enough to move my aux ports, once i get them working. ironic, how changing things back to stock actually makes power.

RB exaust

I've got the full rb header back exaust, it is louder than stock, though not nearly as loud as n1 muffler set up. The exaust sounds more like true engine power coming out, compared to pure muffler sound. (i.e. - supra compared to honda)

The RB CB is pretty quiet, but any NA with a header is going to be loud.

and that is what my problem is. i'm slowly going deaf from the beautiful sound of a nearly uncorked rotary!!

hoepfully, it will still have a nie sound to it, but the point it to have a quieter exhaust and hopefully regain my aux ports and improve my top end some. i guess we'll find out tomorrow, after we do the swap.

btw, how uch should i ask for the catback from my friend? i told him 125 since he is giving me his stock and the y-pipe no longer has the rb cans on it. is that fair? or should i ask for more?

i thought about that, but the silencers that i would need would have to come from some other exhuast system, and the backpressure is much too high in my taste. i want to reduce noise all around, not choke my engine off. thanks for the advice though.

anyone have any ideas about the price for my rb catback?

exactly. the header makes a helluva lot of difference. i know a guy who's running the stock manifold with the cat replacement/rb presilencer and borla exhaust, and my car seems to be a heck of a lot louder running the rb header/presilencer with the borla. same for my buddy with a trust exhaust. got the exhaust...not too bad, put on the header...loud as all hell.

i'm kind of curious now as to how it will sound with the stock s5 exhuast on the rb system, or what will be left of it.

i did this originally, stock exhaust with rb header and presilencer. that sounded so bad that i immediately went out and purchased a new cat back. at idle and under 3k rpm, it sounded mildy decent and not to loud, over that and it sounded like pure ***. i thought the mufflers were going to tear themselves apart with the car at WOT. do it and you'll be sorry...

i may not be doing it at all, if my friend can't come up with the money soon.

why did it sound like ***? just the higher flow backing up on itself through the stock mufflers? it doesn't seem like it would be bad, but you have done it and i have not. i'll tkae your word for it.

does anyone know where i can get silencers for my mufflers? i may get some just for the highway.

That's what I need to hear. I'm going to pick up a full RB exhaust for my 90. They finally have the true-dual set-up for sale. I'm TIRED of the loudness toooo.

Why don't you replace the N1's for RB mufflers...?
