it make a world of difference if your starting with an automatic equipped chassis!! not only do you have to do the turbo swap, you have to do a auto to 5-speed conversion.... which isnt the easiest conversion in itself!

Can you leave the automatic transmission in though?

our autos can't handle that power... they can barely handle an NA engine

I know this is what I am reading. But can the automatic be left in, say if you were leaving the Turbo II stock, and not modding it?

it's my understanding that a 2nd gen auto will bolt up to the rear housing of a turbo motor, but will be prone to early failure if it's gotta deal with the power a turboed 13b makes.

plus the autos blow... i've got a fast tight s5 engine in my 88 na and every night i dream i wake up and it has a clutch pedal.

I understand that. It's just in my case, I need to put in the motor and do the manual transmission swap a little later. I am borrowing my dad's car for now, and he wants it back.

I think that you should do the swap now, unless you have alot of time on your hands (the 5 speed swap that is).

In my opinion itll be easier when the engine is out and the car is down (out of commission for the time being). You could just go ahead and swap the transmission and the rear end also, a few more days work but then you wouldn't have an unexpected blown tranny or anything. Which will be down not at your leisure. My .02.

otherwise you take the motor out twice... plus auto/5-spd conversion isn't actually all that time consuming if you know what you have to do. Search for instructions, eh?

just buy a 3000 dollar t2 and sell your NA auto. Save tons of time and money.
Don't go swapping a 89-91 t2 motor from some junk yard spec dealer into a 88 chassis. Wiring will suck and you will bever get it to run right. The t2 will have better suspension already installed than the auto. Do yourself a favor and get a t2 if you want a turbo.

personally, I would go with Bukwild's advice, in fact, I did just that, and this is how I now have a TII. Anywho, if you already have the TII motor, I know of at least one member who has run a TII motor with an N/A auto. trans with no issues. However, the TII motor was kept stock. (exhaust, etc.)

I also just bought a TII, it was a little bit easier. Espcially if I wanted to do a swap or anything.

You can swap the turboII motor and use the auto that is supplied with the motor. If none is supplied then you should do a 5 speed swap. WHich I also agree its not an easy task. If you must use the auto, I suggest you use nothing less than the tII auto tranny. Selling your n/a and buying a tII is also a good option, but chances are you will not be able to find a good running tII for cheap. Most of the cheap ones are old and ragged out.... I prefer making an n/a turbo, especially a vert...

I have to agree with martin. Just rebuild your motor it will never hold. Other option get a auto from a TII JDM car and again rebuild your motor and do a turbo on it www.1300cc.com
If you still dont like this idea get a whol TII and A/T from japan and rebuild it and put it in.
If you still dont like this sell car and buy a TII 5speed.

Ither way figure a month down time as a round figure and you doing install probly between 4 and 5 grand to finish.
