Question Questions Before Removal

I'm ready to take my turbo motor out. Everything has been disconnected and removed properly, all I have to do is undo the mounts and lift it out.
I have a few questions though, and I was wondering if someone could help me out. See, I have a friend whose friend has an FC, and they told me not to put the motor on a stand or something. Like I'll mess up the e-shaft or what not. I don't have a stand, but I can get one from my neighbor. Can someone clear this up for me? Is there any way I can set up the motor on something else to let it sit while I clean up the engine bay and do some maintenance? I'm not rebuilding the motor, as it ran fine before I started taking it apart. I will be doing that later this summer (if that makes any difference).
Also, is it easier to take out with the tranny or no? I need to get it rebuilt, and I was just gonna take it out along with the motor.
Thanks in advance, as I won't be reading this thread 'til the morning. Any suggestions/tips are welcome.

I've never heard that. Some people use stands, but you can get along perfectly well without one...

I pulled mine with the tranny- if you want to also, I highly recommend you use an engine equalizer. I didn't, and actually had to support everything 1/2 way out of the car and move the chain some to tilt the assy a bit more than it was...

i pulled mine without a equalizer as well. by meself ,, but you just have to take it slow and becareful. something else i like to do , but alot of people skip this ,, is to pull the radiator out. it gives you that much clearance and you run less risk of damaging it

Tell him to go read the Engine chapter of the FSM, where it tells you how to bolt the motor to an engine stand...

I see. Thanks for the input. Now, I won't be able to get the engine stand until later in the afternoon. How could I set it up without one after pulling the motor? Should I just wait until I already have it?
I'll def take out the radiator, so that I won't mess it up.

Put it on the ground. Or did I miss something? Sounds like some kind of trick question.

I don't have to set it up on blocks or anything?
Just double checking (I'm such a n00b).

putting it on the ground should be okay - as long as you are gentle :-)

another option is to go find an old tire (w/o rim) and use that as a cushion to put the engine on.

When I removed my engine for buffing and cleaning purposes, I simply remove it with and equalizer, and then, while the engine is in the air, remove the oil pan, and the internal kinda of oil filter and I simply put it on a flat table....

no harm to anything...
