Question about rebuilding

Does anyone know if superglue and assembly lube mix and wouldn't harm anything during rebuild? Like using the superglue to make sure everything stays in place until it starts. I've had an experience of where the coolant seals would come off with only hylomar.

alot of people here that i've read said that using superglue for you rebuild is ok cuz it breaks off when the car is running BUT they've only used it to keep the apex seals together. i dont think it's wise to glue the coolant seals to hold them cuz you'll eventually have a coolant leak. does it come off during assembly or after?

how long do you wait to put in the seals after you put hymolar in? my rebuild video says it's best to put in the seals when the hymolar gets sticky and tacky.

hylomar doesn't change properties, it is always tacky but it is thicker in winter and thinner in summer as you'd guess.

So its harder to stick in the summer then the winter? Is it like a big difference or what? I was just seeing if there was any extra precautions to keeping the seals all still while flipping them around.

are you using RA seals?

i've never run into an issue with the coolant seals popping out of their grooves but the RA ones were a bit of a pita to work with as they seem a little too small....

My experience with the RA rebuild kit:

You won't get the coolant seals to stay without a bit of stretching. Pull them a bit, then put them in a groove & plant the rest of the engine bits on top of them to force them to the correct size.

The Hylomar, at least in my experience, will thicken up slightly after exposure to air. It can be used to 'glue' the seals in place, at least slightly.

Superglue the apex seals. It doesn't say you have to, but the damn corner assist pieces turned a 2 hour assembly into a 6 hour assembly, because they kept popping out.

I'd say it saver if you have a extra set of hands to hold the top part of teh coolant seal tehn you work it down into the groove. Hey be frugal with the hlyomar it isnt worth havent coolant seal faliure b/c you didnt use enough ,and it wont harm anything

yes the hlyomar also comes out of the tube like toothpaste. After about 10 mins it becomes tacky and thick ,and a bitch to get off

yeah if the superglue hardened and was then washed out it could leave a gap for coolant to get through. hylomar is the way to go... then ultra black rtv on the rotor housing side.

you should be able to tell if you pinched a seal by looking at the gaps between housings... maybe the seal grooves weren't cleaned and scraped out all the way to their corners, i never ran into this problem myself though...

household solvents wash hylomar off quickly, try rubbing alcohol
