Question about Pulsation Dampner

I am having a gas smell from unfer the engine bay from under the UIM. The car will also not idle, it just shuts off. if I keep the car running, it runs crappy and backfires up untill 2k, then runs normal. Would a bad Pulsation Dampner cause this problem. I searched around, and it seems like a common problem, but I havent seen anyone say their car had idling problems. I just assume that its not getting enough fuel at the lower rpms? Any other suggestions of whats wrongs?

No, it will not cause idling problems. Fix the fuel leak and check for vacuum leaks while you have the manifold off.

it would have to have a nasty leak for it to cause any running problems, if you think it is leaking you should check/replace it anyways. better to start with the safety items then worry about the driveability problems, better alive than burnt i always say..

Get it checked out out - NEVER drive around if you can smell a pungent odor of gas from the engine bay...

I know there is a gas leak, and all vaccum lines are connected. It might not be the PD, but seemed like the logical guess due to others having this gas smell. What if the gasket between the UIM and LIM was leaking for some odd reason?

Check the tension on the center bolt of the UIM..... and spray carb cleaner in the gap by the secondary rail... if it dies you got a gasket leak...

When i first got my car, the center bolt on the UIM (the one by itself) had came loose and was causing a vac leak, tightened it up... it broke, pulled it out, got another, toghtened that up, problem solved..

Also.... check the lines going over to the carbon canister.... if they are cracked, you'll smell gas.

Remember there are many fuel hoses you cant even see Under the Uim..I had to rip that Off twice to find the fuel leak, From a hose to the Primary rail!

Could also be a cracked injector or bad o-rings on the injectors. While you have the uim off, replace all of the vac hoses and if the enigine has over 100k on it, send the injectors out for cleaning.

HAHA you talk like I have money....I drive an rx7 and go to college.. Enough said. I will rip the rest of the uim off tonight. I dont think the gas smell is coming from the canister, it seems to be by the intake, but I will do a in-depth line check tonight. Most of the lines were replaced when this motor went in the car. That was about 10k ago, thats the only reason I dont think its bad vac line. Btw, if it matters, this just happen all of a sudden. I was going to a friends house, came to a stop sign and the car died. Then I smelt the gas when I got home and popped the hood. I update my finding later tonight. Thanks so far..

Update:
I did not take off the uim yet, however i had a buddy come over to keep the engine running while I looked around. ( because it wont idle, and backfires like crazy under 2k)
So there is definatly something leaking, as in I can hear something hissing from what looks to be the PD area, however, im not positive of this. 2nd, i found that on the device with the oranage plug on the drivers side of the manifold(sorry still kind of a noob) has the hose connector broken off. So what ever it does, it cannnot be working. Third, I have an A/f guage, and it is reading lean all the time, which is not good, so what ever is leaking is fuel related. I do not know if the PDs make noise when they are bad, anyone know. I do beleive it is bad, but it does not fix my lean, or idling problem. If anyone else gets any thoughts, it would be appriciated. Thanks, Joe
