question about the brake conversion.

Before you start bashing on me about "use the search n00b" read this post. I used the search and nothing I read from those threads really helped me. so here's my question: Which brake hose do I need to install for a Turbo II brake conversion? I have the hard lines, but what else is there that I need? Do I need the N/A or Turbo II flex brake hose? Oh yeah, I have a 90 GTU w/ 5 lug. any takers?

You have 5 lug hubs now? just single piston calipers?

IIRC the flex line will work.......but just use whichever one is in better shape.

...here's the deal.

at the moment the car has 5 lugs on it and the 4 piston brake calipers.

originally when i bought the car from the seller they 5 lugs and single piston brake calipers. now, which brake hose do i need to buy before i spend money on useless crap. i've searched everywhere in the forums with no result. do i need to make a custom brake hose (from napa) or do you know where i can go to get a set of hoses? i'm running out of time.

What? So the car had single piston brakes on it when you bought it, and now you're putting on the 4 pistons, right?

As I said, I believe the flex lines are the same. But If you're buying new ones buy ones for 4 piston calipers obviously.

news to me too, i thought the GTU had 4 pot calipers. kinda odd to have 5 lugs but the standard 4 lug brakes...

sounds like someone sold you the farm.

no, my gtu has he poop calipers on it too, but still has 5 lugs and turboII tranny,
what mazda did was skimp out on the 1990 gtu and put the weak brakes on it, they might have done it in 89 and/or 91 as well....unless i was miss informed...but thats the way my car is ...did you need to change the caliper brackets as well ?or are they universal between the tII and the n/a's?

well then all you need is the 4 piston with the rigid line and connect that to a different type of flex line which hooks into the rigid line...but if you need the flex lines...all I need to do is cut it at both ends of the rigid lines...but TII anf NA 5 lug 4 pistons should be the same

also, if the lines that were on you car are not in bad shape the will fit into the 4 pots. and the brackets are the same. i did the conversion about a year ago and have had no problem. but since the car is 16 years old and you have the brakes system mostly apart you should change them. and if you can get them made at napa, i would take the old ones to them and get new. or buy ss lines. so since you have the 4 pots the only thing you need to worry about the fitting size and length. and the fitting in the 4 pot is the same and the single. hope this helps.

I did the TII brake swap for my 90 GTU and the stock hoses didn't thread into the caliper all the way. I ordered braided hoses for the turbo calipers and problem solved.
