Question about blown engine

I just bought my first Rx-7. It's a 1990 GTU. A lot of smoke comes out from the exhaust. My buddy is a mechanic, and he told me that the apex seal went on the car. Is there any specific way of telling whether it is damaged (meaning I would have to do a rebuild) or not?

Alot of people here will suggest a Compression Test.
Do you know how to do that? Check your FSM.

not apex seal, if its blueish smoke its bad oil control rings, rebuild required
white smoke, bad coolant seals, rebuild required
search on both of those and see if thats its

It's white smoke

I have another buddy told me it's burning coolant. I know very little about cars, so I kind of have to go on what other people tell me. I'm doing my research on rotaries as much as can though. Cause I really love these cars.
