Question about an amp

Hey, I was wondering where I should run a power cable for an amp through. Did you run it through a pre-existing hole in the firewall, Drilled a new hole, or something else? I own an 89 gxl.

Thanx,
Bryan

I used a wire hanger, straightened out, and fished the 4 gauge wire through the firewall next to the steering column.

I also ran an 8 gauge wire through there.

use the factory grommits on each side.

As a rule of thumb you want to avoid running the wire near anything that moves like the steering shaft or in back of the brake/clutch/gas pedals.

I cut a hole in the grommet where the factory wiring harness goes thru the firewall. Works great.(be careful no to cut any wires)

id like to add a question to this...i can see where the factory wires go through from the drivers side under the dash, but where to they come out? the only place i can see where they might be coming out is like a foot away on the other side. anyone got any pics they have and/or could take to help me with this?

You might need to use a clothes hanger (metal one) straighten it out attach the end to the end of the wire , and fish it through the hole, or you could drill a new one like a lot of audio shops do anyway. Then you can use a good caulking around the hole to keep water from getting through.

Run it through the factory wiring harness grommet. I put 8 gauge through there easily.
