Push Start No Work

Any ideas anyone? I tried to push-start my 1986 RX-7 Base N/A since it apparently has a bad starter... and whenever my brother and cousin pushing got good speed, I'd drop the clutch and the car would just screech to a halt!!! Tried this more than three times... to no avail.

Any ideas?

The car just goes CLICK whenever I try to start it... however, today, for a second, the starter went, "RrRrRrRrRr" for a second...

Sounds like you locked up your engine! Time for a rebuild.

ATF might work, but I dunno. It works for some and doesn't for others.

What would I do with the ATF? Put it into the engine?

Uhhh... what causes the engine to lockup? This engine apparently has been rebuilt. For example, the side housings are painted blue...

If you can put the car in neutral, then reach in there and turn the engine over by pulling on the pulleys...then it isn't locked up. I got a hint that it isn't because you mentioned that one time it went RrRrRrRrRr.

So ....if it turns over when pulling on the pulleys....it sounds like the starter/ solenoid is going kaput. The click, click, click each time you turn the key to Start, is the solenoid/starter malfunctioning. Next time it goes click, get under the car and smack the starter with a hammer a couple of times then try again.

When you pushed the car, what gear were you in when you popped the clutch? You should try either second or third gear.

On the other hand, when I first read your post my first thoughts were that the engine was locked up.....and that could be the case. It's just that later you said it went RrRrRrRrrrrr.

DISREGARD my above reply. I just read another post by you and it sounds like its carbon locked and or just locked up for someother reason. Sorry 'bout that.

A follow on to Blaster's comment. If in fact you got it to "Rr,Rr, Rr" and in fact it was trying to turn over it may well be the battery or something as simple as gummed up/dirty battery terminals. Clean your terminals good, check the grounds, and charge the battery after having it checked. If it turns over better but wil not start you may have flooded it so do the unflood procedure.

If it will not turn, think worst case scenario.

Thank-you all for your help! I'm gonna start posting my updates on this thread: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hreadid=245119

Since it's more conveniently titled!!!

The battery is charged, it can turn on the headlights and all... I tried push-starting twice in first, once in second and once in reverse. Also... I tried turning the eccentric shaft bolt... and it didn't go.

SUCKS...
