you can make a pump from a 240 KA motor work. ALOT smaller, and you can mount it super low

There are two different pumps.

Engine speed Variable power steering pump

and Vehicle speed variable power steering pump.

All S4 with power steering had the better Vehicle speed variable power steering.

All S5 Turbos with power steering had the better Vehicle speed variable power steering.

But some of the non turbo S5 models had the cost cutting Engine speed Variable power steering, so their pumps would not be compatible with the Vehicle speed variable power steering systems.

Relocate the pump outside the engine bay, it's much better that way, or at least I think so. Have a look in the 2nd gen archives, there's a thread of mine in there on how to do that.

Icemark,
The unit with three lines (VSSS) does it have the same electrical connections as the other, will the plugs swap?
The three lines you speak of, are two threaded and the third a clamp type?
I have the stock pump on my 88 T2 and I have another one that came attached to a rack and pinion I picked up. The seller says its from an "87", he didn`t say what model 87. Both my stock pump and the second one have the same two threaded line connections and the third clamp type connection. They also both have the same electrical connections. The differance is the reservoirs (spelling?) They are for sure differant. Are these pumps interchangable? Oh......sorry for rambling!!!
