project rx7

hello my friends. i am sean i live in arizona. this is my first post as a member of this forum. i heard this was a pretty good place to go for intelligent answers and help so i joined. now onto my situation:

my friend is currently selling an 86-87 turbo 2 for 500. i am looking to buy this and start it as a project car. the only thing wrong with it that i know of it has blown apex seals, couple dings in the body, and a little interior work. i am going to get another i beleive 13b into it. i have a friend who has already done this so its not gonna be to hard i dont think. i am also probably going to sell the extra turbo off the old engine and use the money for the car. i was wondering if i had any questions i could ask you guys. how hard do you think it will be to drop the engine in and how much would you say a decent one will run me. thanks in advance.

the engines are pretty simple to remove and install if you have ever replaced an engine before, a new T2 runs in the area of $1500+ for a rebuilt or you could get a used jspec for about $850 but they are junk.

you'll be looking at a full rebuild if you plan on just replacing the apex seals, as its not really worth it just to crack open the motor just to replace the apex seals

There's a video you can get that's step-by-step for rebuild... try a search.

thats just a few sites but rotary aviation is known for thier hard seals, and atkins rotary is good for some rebuild kits and other specialty items.

the other sites are good resources for knowledge which we all can never have enough of.

so gets to readin!

thnx guys for the info but im thinking im gonna do just a swap. i found out the car may have a case of hydrolock and i have no idea how to do a rebuild yet. im thinking of just buying a new 13b and dropping it in and using the old 13b as a practice motor to help advance my automotive knowledge
