PROJECT: Boost

So the name may not be original but who cares? Right now I am in the middle of cleaning up and assembling my Turbo II kit on my 4 port 13B (turbo) motor! It's been a long time that my car has patiently waited for boost and over the next week this will be the main project. I have taken many pictures and will be taken many more of the before and after of this project. I will even be posting a couple video snippets once I figure out how to pull them off my iPhone.

At the heart of this project is the turbo so I figured it appropriate to show the before and after images of the fair lady we call turbo as I gave her a little face lift.

Here is another picture of the turbo before it was cleaned:
<a href="http://s1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii549/gadufresne/?action=view&amp;current=TurboDirty2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii549/gadufresne/TurboDirty2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Here is a picture of a similar shot afterwords:
<a href="http://s1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii549/gadufresne/?action=view&amp;current=CleanTurbo2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii549/gadufresne/CleanTurbo2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Last but not least a video of my checking for play in the rear shaft (thats what she said!). A little bit but nothing to be concerned about or warrant a rebuild, that being said the front shaft had 0! I was actually very shocked by this.

There are a few easy ways to upload vids.

If you have gmail you have a google acct and therefore a youtube acct. log on to youTube to test. After you record your vid click on the share button (box with arrow swooping out) and choose youtube.

You can also set up free dropbox or photobucket accts and they both have free iphone apps that make it easy to upload pictures and vids. Photobucket is probably the best choice for vids as it creates the forum code to put in your post.

Good luck with your project!

Used photobucket but it didn't work right for me. It's a video of me moving the rear turbine with some needle nose pliers. There actually isn't much movement at all. I am going to be posting more pictures later today as I think today all the parts will be going on. Just waiting on gasket in mail and wiring guy to come swap harness for me.

Where did all the oil come from in the first place? Might want to look into replacing the internal seals and such.
Good luck!

I am glad money rains from the sky for you. However here in the real world where I live I have to consider more things than just the turbo. The fact that I had to come by the gaskets, lines, harness, ecu, upper and lower plenum, exhaust manifold, injector rails, and much more I can't recall off the top of my head to take that N/A perversion off the top of my turbo block was hard to do as is. Since I got this from a recently deceased Turbo II car I couldn't be too picky about the turbo, so we make do with what we have.

Not to mention that after I get all of this turbo equipment installed I will have to run lines to my gauges (wideband costing around 200) along with boost gauge, oil pressure gauge (which also required an 80 dollar adapter from racing beat) making the gauges themselves come in at over 500 dollars said and done. I have 4 piston brakes I can't install because I do not have the lines or 5 lug conversion done yet. For the 5 lug conversion to happen along with the ability to handle the power I will be putting down I have to do a drive line, tranny, and rear end swap yet another expensive endeavor.

So in a world of extremely expensive upgrades I fudged on the turbo to make everything run right. Even with that the twin scroll stock turbo produces a nice amount of boost and checked out to be rather healthy. I am however open to T4 donations.

On a completely separate note: Racing Beat can kiss my *** for charging me 7 dollars shipping on a 7 dollar part and not even having the courtesy to deliver it on time! This is why at this time I have no pictures of the project to update because until I get that gasket it is halted. Again, kiss my *** Racing Beat.

::UPDATE NOTICE::

So I finally have all the gaskets that I need in, and aside from a few misc coolant (and maybe oil) hoses I think we have everything properly together. I will be posting pictures of the N/A top tear down either tonight or tomorrow. I am going to get all the bolt on stuff out of the way so I can focus on the fine tuning and =\ if I have to the ECU harness.

Again, more pictures coming soon!

So one halt is happening after another and the closer I get the further I feel away. I managed to get the oil and cooling lines sorted out by adapting the oil drop neck with a fitting for a return line (prevented me from taking apart the front of my motor) and going to the original oil galley with a banjo fitting for the oil feed line. Now with all this done I readied myself to take apart my engine once more! NAY NAY, this didn't happen because I have to swap out the harness/ecu/MAF and some resistor solenoid pack under the hood? I am not even sure if it is the right name but needless to say I am waiting on someone who knows a little more than I to show up and button it down for me.

I did however decide to ship of my N332 to Rtek for the 1.7 chip upgrade of goodness!! I am expecting that to be done sometime after the first so once we sort out all the small stuff for the bolt up (which ironically is the big stuff for getting in the way!) we should be G2G!!

Along with the N332 ECU, you'll need the N318 AFM (which you already know) and the N318 boost sensor.

Are you referring to the solenoid resistor or the fuel pump relay and resistor when you say? (I saw your other post, and misinformed you with the photo you presented.)

Yes I think it's the fuel pump relay resistor. I can't remember what he said, this is the first time I have turbo charged a car. I actually came from working on GM V6's and V8's so the turbo world is ******* crazy to me lol
