Production numbers..

Just curious if anyone had any idea how many RX's were made per year, per model, per color.. =)

For the 3rd gen's theres a well known reference completely broken down into the formentioned groups, I thought it would be interesting to find out how many '89-'91 TurboII's were made, since it is so %&(*#*$(# difficult to find one at all, regardless of condition. (Plus bragging rights would be nice =P)

Yeah it would be nice if someone had a black book like Chevy did and kept record of every single vette sold and how many of each option, color.
All I know are
10th AE 1500 units all white
'89 GTUs 1000 red, black, or white
'90 GTUs 100 red, black, or white
There are sales figures somewhere, but I don't know about colors and models.

Hey,

We all know that the GTUs is the rarest RX-7, since its an RX-7 model and not merely a color code, or interior code, etc. So all you CYM R1 owners, bite me!! You and your "Only 500 made." Please, its a paint job. Compare it to the mere handful of GTUs's out there. *grin* If my stupid poll was still up, only 4 GTUs owners out of 200+ people who responded, the lowest of all the models. So there! *grin*

Your friend at 8000rpm,

No, it's the key code for your car; you can go to any Mazda dealer and tell them you own an '89 Turbo II and give them that code for them to make you a duplicate key.

The serial number is in your VIN, and it's the last 5 numbers...

Question

Just curious; But my GXL RX-7 on the door panel says production date 2/1989...is this considered an 1990 or just plain 89'? And would of been the next production dates to be considered 1990's, wether it was N/A or TII?

Check your VIN - there's a letter in the middle of your VIN.

G = 1986
H = 1987
J = 1988
K = 1989
L = 1990
M = 1991

I think yours is a "K" model or 1989.

No... those are the codes for the key tumblers. If you lose your key, you go to your locksmith or the Mazda dealer and say you lost your key, the code is 7341, and they make you a new one.

So, um, get your locks changed now...

So has anyone thought of emailing Mazda USA? Maybe they would be more willing to help than Canada. I'll give it a shot, because know I am kind of interested.

Edit- seems Mazda USA cannot be contacted via email. They only leave a phone number and a mailing address. I'll call and see if I can get some info.

Monito.com is what I call the "holy grail" of RX-7 info sites. Here is a link with some info on production numbers:
