problems with firing up

problems with firing up

ok so im fairly new to rx7's so bare with me. my car one day decided not to start any more and at first i thought it flooded and tried pulling the egi fuse trick and no luck. some one told me that it could be fuel pump or filter? could those two wcause my car not to start? im stumped please help! i have a 87 gxl if that helps any.

possibly a clogged fuel line? just something someone suggested.

well, a clogged fuel line, filter or a faulty pump could all be the causes, are you getting fuel to the motor? Are you getting spark?
Does it crank even?

You gotta look into it more, read the faq, get the manual and read the trouble shooting section for "car won't start"

i have spark, it does crank. maybe severely flooded?

Ummm well you should check the line for fuel. If you are then maybe compression. Is your motor rebuilt.

thanks! well i started checking for fuel at the engine and traced it back to the fuel pump. replaced it and it fired up! what a relief!

Next time, check in this order.

Compression, Fuel, Spark.

Compression is simple, screw in a tester get an assitant to crank the car...now while you hold the release valve measure the bounces.

Fuel - Now, I had a fuel delivery problem as well. First, pull off the fuel rail and crank, see if your getting fuel. Next, check EGI fuse or Fuses (S5), next check EGI Main Relay on driver side fender at the very top near the firewall. Next check the fuel pump connector on the driver side rear strut tower, if you have power there its the fuel pump. Last, replace fuel pump. That solved my fuel problem, now I have no spark.

I have had 2 fuel pumps pump but not make enough pressure, I pulled the fuel line off the rail an seen fuel coming out but it still did not have the pressure to let it run. Just saying if you can see fuel flowing it does not always mean it is still not a bad pump.

well there was fuel but it was just trickling out. i think it was just the fuel that was sitting in the fuel lines that didnt make it to the engine.
