Problem w/black and orange water seals

ok.... I left my motor sitting. I had a problem with one of the orange water seals expanding somehow. It wouldn't fit back into the slot, I ordered the approptiate seal. I just went back to take a look at the engine and I noticed that one of the black outer water seals has the same problem now... Why do these things do this? ANd is there anyway I can get them back to normal? Maybe wash and then dry them?

I appreciate your support!

I think its the vaseline if thats what you used. If using vaseline, you need to get the thing put together pronto. I was rebuilding one, put the black 0ring in and thought I'd take a break and watch the telly. Well the sun got at the right angle and shone brighly on my rebuild. When I came back that black worm had grown and there was no way it'd go back in. Had to buy another. Also you want to make sure you don't play with them and stretch them inadvertantly.

If you use something called Hylomar, you won't have this problem. You can buy it at some autostores or Mazdatrix. Sorry 'bout that. Buy some more seals is the answer. Them you got gone bye, bye. http://www.mazdatrix.com/q-supply.htm
