probably a noob question

i want to get an aftermarket steering wheel for my fc. yet after my first attempt to get one failing im not sure exactly what i need. the first one i was young and dumb. i got an autozone grant wheel and hub. but after all efforts of trying to get the hub on nothing worked. i stripped out my steering column and decided to go back to original.( had to get a whole new steering column.

is there something i am missing. can i use a universal hub. what hubs did you guys use? what methods did you guys use to attach your hub? and will any hub/steering wheel work or does it have to be the same company?

also for a quick release do you put that on with the hub as well?

thanks in advance

if you already have a grant wheel you will need a grant hub it should be a really easy install (i leave the nut on a lil so when i pull on the wheel it doesnt fly into my face)

this was off the grant website

Lol good call on leaving the nut. i had a buddy who took it off, and when the wheel came off it hit him in the face and broke his noise. Matching up steering wheels with hubs is not that big of a deal, i believe most hubs are either 6 screws or 5. I not sure but i believe momo make a hub adapter for the rx and if you buy a momo all nrg quick release will make up with as well as a sparco steering wheel. If momo doesnt make them then i know sparco and grant do, and i believe nrg quick releases fit them as well.

the grant one sucks but im just not understanding. when you say leave the nut on a little are you saying you don't bolt it down you just slap it on?? because thats how i messed up my last steering column i was trying to tighten the bolt done to hold the hub on and it ended up just stripping out the column. my question is how do you get the hub to not sping on the shaft. is the momo hub splined. or is it just smaller so the splines are pressed into the hub? sorry for all the questions guys

You leave the nut on when you are taking the old wheel, it takes a lot of force to remove the stock wheel, so sometime when you pop it off, it will come flying off. ive only ever seen momo hubs and they are splined. ive never heard of these things spinging on the column. But the nut does have to be on all the way. i hope this helps, ive never put after market hubs on an rx7, i have with and rx8 though.

momo makes hubs specifically for the FC. they have a 6 bolt wheel pattern (like most other higher quality wheels), unlike the cheap grant wheels which have a 5 bolt pattern.

edit: the momo part number is 5705
