Pre-Silencer

Why is it so much? Does anyone know of any cheaper pre-silencers?
^^^ They want $194.00 for a RacingBeat Non-Turbo Pre-Silencer .

First - some basics.
A rotary engine has a hotter & louder exhaust that any other engine. The exhaust dumps straight out. There are no poppet valve heads, valve stems, goose neck ports with water jackets in the way of the exhaust.
Any fiberglass resonator or pre-silencer within 6 ft of the ports will melt the glass.
The exhaust pulses are so sharp that the repeating vibration will fracture the welds holding the baffles of standard resonators.

Only a stainless steel packed pre-silencer will hold up to an NA rotary for any length of time, and they cost a little more.

A header amplifies the situation, a turbo softens it..

For example - this engine is just IDLEING!
(edit) Oops - I just checked - It was running about 3500 with no load.

I love those pics from Kevins work stand! The video rocked!

Anyways back on topic.
SureShot nailed it.

Also Racingbeat seems to be the only ones with a Presilencer out on the market for a Rotary so they can set their own price really.

Bonez SuperFlo system for my NA was like $300 too and it's pretty much what that is.

Corksport is coming out with one but they haven't announced when they will be done or what the cost will be.

If you don't want to pay that then get a race pipe and realise what the extra money gets you.(Saves your hearing!)

I just installed a racing beat pre-silencer recently. Its noticably quiter than when I had my Bonez racing pipe on, and that kinda had a presiler on it. Before, my parents could hear inside the house when I was several blocks away, and that wasnt accelerating too much. Also, when I first installed the RB presilencer, I didnt have the split air pipe, so the tube coming out of the presilencer that attatches to it was open. (see pictures of it if your not sure what it looks like) It was a small tube that was before the presilencer, and it added a whole lot of sound. Just think of what it would be like without a presilencer. I dont think the RB presilnecer reduces power much, if any. It keeps the same ID as the rest of the exhaust setup. What the extra money buys you is quality and better designed parts. The flange where the Bonez pipe connected to the exhaust manifold was warped due to the heat from the exhaust. I can get a pic of it if anyone wants to see it. The bottom line is that for something like this, you really shouldnt be cheap.

all that i have is a magnaflow muffler in the midle of everything.it's working great, i had it for about 5 month and no complains! i love my set up! pace setter headers,2 1/2 pipe to the magnaflow muffler "it works as a silencer" then a single 2 1/2 pipe to the back w/ afully polished ss magnaflow muffler to the driver side! . it sound so good ! it's a deep tone and on low rpms is very quiet but when you hit the gas it sounds super!

I just installed a presilencer on my first gen with a second gen motor in it. It reduced the noise noticably. It was probably the beset upgrade money wise that I did because, I know will not go deaf before I am 20. But I believe it is worth every penny.

The racing beat unit is the best quality unit with a fair price. My RB presilencer makes my 3" single set up almost as quiet as duals. I doubt any other unit would be able to do it. It's worth every penny. =)

Note if you have a main catalytic converter, you can go with an HKS exhaust, partial headers, and retain the stock collector that bolts to the side of the engine. It's cheaper, has a good exhaust note, and isn't loud.

If you want full headers, Racing Beat's the only way to go.

I am about to try using a Borla XR-1 RACELINE muffler as a presilencer. Everyone says that the Xr1's are the best to use as a presilencer but this one also is somewhat chambered in that it splits the exhaust into 4 smaller tubes then they merge back together. Also its SS packed. Borla said it reduces noise even further than the regular XR1's. Its a very unique design that I think will tone down the 3" piping to the black N1 I have now. I think this will silence even better than the RB one i use to have. Its kinda pricey though at around 250$. Ill try and find a link to more info on it.

When I used to cruise the 3rd gen specific alot of people welded the borla xr-1 into their midpipe to make it quieter. Might want to check the 3rd gen forum for more feedback about the borla.

For that much money why don't you just get the racing beat which is cheaper, proven, and most certainly flows better?

because it looks like it will silence better than the RB silencer. I actually use to have a RB downpipe, presilencer, and HKS single catback and it sounded good but was still too loud.

The RB's flow really well and last a while. They make N/A's quiet enough to run a full straight thru system...I'm planning on the 2.25's for a custom long primary system with a 3" Thermal muffler at the end...should be nice and quiet with plenty of flow
