Pre-Mixing question

hey guys. I was wondering, if i wanted to start premixing in my turbo 2 will i have to unplug or remove my Oil Metering Pump, or can i just leave it in? what are the pros and cons of just mixing 1/2 oz of 2 cycle oil per gallon with your gasoline while the pump is still in and working?

You can leave it on and add less premix or block it off and add a little more premix. But if you own a S5 just leave it in place because it will throw a code & limp mode. There are threads about premix with the omp and without it. You just got do a search buddy.

The only cons I can think of are :

- its not free
- you have to do it at every fill-up
- from time to time you have to re-stock the 2 cycle (or premix like idemitsu)

I premix from day one (on my Rx-8's new engine) and Im premixing for my S5 NA.

if you're sure your OMP is 100% working, just premix it around 1/2 oz per gallon of gas.

I have a S4 NA and I've been using a 400:1 ratio with the OMP, and it's been running quite nice. I don't know how to use the ratio with imperial measurements though.

Most on this forum say between a 1/2 to a full 1 oz. per gallon. I use 1oz. per gallon with a blocked off OMP. You could probably use much less if keeping the OMP. I just didnt trust the 20 year old lines and injectors.

If you are going to premix, use 2 cycle premix oil. don't put 4 stroke oil in there.

You don't HAVE to if your OMP is working, if you are concerned about your OMP...then just fix that.

If you search you can make your own lines for $20 or so.

I have never done it, but I don't see a problem with it. Make sure you get the inside of the injector dry after you clean it though.

2 cycle oil is ment to be burnt regular oil is not, its that simple premix motors last longer and run better. The only reason mazda didn't run premix on the rx7 is because the average car buyer wouldn't buy a car that they had to premix. If you don't mind an extra minute at the pump get rid of the OMP and premix. I believe that all of mazda's race cars that had rotaries ran premix.

There is no need to run premix if your OMP is working. By adding more oil your going to be burning more oil.... the factory pump pumps what it needs, if anything, when adding more oil your going to loose power and add build up to your engine.

If you took apart a engine that had 100k+ using only the omp you would see most the wear on the outer edge's of the housings.

If you took apart a engine that had 100k+ using only premix you would see even wear across the entire housing. Also probably less carbon build up.

The omp injects into the middle of the housing making it harder to prevent wear on the outer edges.

Im willing to say hands down premixing alone is 100% better then the OMP alone.

What if I have no idea what my omp is doing of if it's even working 100% or if it's been deleted, is it safe to just start premixing or will adding 1oz/gal be detrimental to my engine if the omp is working properly in addition?

no you dont have to premix, stock OMP NA cars run over 200k with the factory system in place

if you want a little more safety put a little bit in the tank when you know it will be running, if your sitting in traffic everyday dont put so much- it makes you smell like you were mowing the lawn all day

you actually get less build up with premix, cuz not only its a lube, its also a **** to prevent junk from sticking to the surface.

without premix, the engine will have unequal wear (towards both sides, not the center)
