Power steering question

Hi, I would like to ask you guys a question. If I remove my power steering pump will my steering wheel be heavier than one with a manual rack? I am thinking of doing a custom Front mount IC and it will be easier if I remove the pump. Any inputs from guys that removed the pump from their cars. My car is an RHD 89 Turbo II. Also I check the factory ECU on my car and its N380. Do you know the differences between the N370 ecu that is on US cars and the N380?

Thanks
Tasos

I removed the power steering bracket, pump, lines, and brackets from my car. It's a little tougher than a car that came with manual steering, but it's not much more difficult to steer. Most people leave the holes for the hoses open, but I tapped the holes for the hoses with a 3/8 NPT tap and plugged them.

I've heard its harder than with a manual steering rack. I've removed my power steering steering rack, and I'm a pretty small guy and I have no problems getting around, even in parking lots.

Thanks for the info. The reason I asked is because I had one of my friends power steering going bad and his steering wheel was really heavy compared to the one I had on my other turboII with a manual rack. Maybe it is not the same feel if you remove the pump lines etc.

Ok in my car I removed just the belt for the power steering and I can say yes if you leave the pump in it is harder than the manual rack in a TII.

but to solve my problem I got a manual rack.

If you want to see, just pop the belt off the pump, pull the power steering fuse and drive around the block... that will tell you real quick if you want the power steering to work or not.
