Power loss while drifting left?

On my way to work on a sharp left drifting turn, as soon as I started to drift, I lost all throttle until my wheels had traction again and throttle kicked in. It's only on left turns I find too. Is the fuel pump on the left side of the tank and the centripetal motion is pushing all the fuel to the right side of the tank making none available to the fuel pump?? This is just my educated guess. What do you guys think?

your assumption is right, i believe some earlier models had less baffles and suffered more from this condition or what you can do to fight it is not take hard left turns with less than 1/4 tank.

fuel starvation is as bad as fuel cut on a turboed engine, it can cause detonation as well and kill the motor so be careful.

You can but fuel tank spong summit i belive, that stuffs into tank and helps prevent slosh when on lower fuel.

as covered in the FAQ for FC sticky thread at the top of this the 2nd gen section, the problem is probably just a dirty fuel pump sock.

Always read the FAQ for FC sticky thread before posting. You have 5 replies, and none of them call out this $15 fix that is very very common problem on the FC.

I had the same problem only on left turns, momentary power loss until I got straight in the lane. I removed the fuel pump only to find that some idiot had installed a salvage pump and didn't install the pickup filter at the bottom of the pump. I went ahead and bought a Walbro 255 lph pump and Voila!....no more probs.

Auto store probably.

Is that the little plastic strainer that goes on the fuel pump? That's a $15 part that looks like it should cost $0.05. That's at any auto store, as are most other parts. Otherwise you can go to a Mazda dealer.
